Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors present an analytical model to study the vibration suppression effect of the nonlinear energy sink (NES) on the wind-vortex-induced vibration of deep-water jacket pipes. Their formulation was developed by means of the Multi-scale mixed harmonic balance method and Routh-Hurwitz criterion. A consistent analysis of the nonlinear influences of the NES is reported. Finally, this work may help to better understand this kid of problems as well as to tune the response of vibration of deep-water jacket pipes. I have only one comment:

·         Although a schematic of the proposed model is presented in Fig 1, I suggest to add an illustration (schematic, picture) of the case of study analyzed in section 4.1. This may help the readers to understand how a particular case of study can be addressed with the proposed model.

Reviewer 2 Report

Present form of article is not acceptable to publish in this journal.

Minor changes are required and  following modification may be incorporated.

1) Figure 1 should be improved.

2) In Eq. 3,  dot means derivative should be mention.

3)  Figure 2 caption should be with graphics only.

4) In Figure 5 and 6, thickness should be improved.

5) In Figure 7, unable to see any difference between figs a to d.

If authors are able to incorporate above changes in the revised manusript. Than revised manuscript may be accepted in the Journal.

Reviewer 3 Report

1.      It is recommended not to use the abbreviation NES in the title of the article.

2.      It is recommended in section 1. Introduction to add a photo of a real NES installed on the jacket pipe.

3.      It is recommended to describe in more detail the derivation of equation (3).

4.      It is recommended to give in Table 1 the designations of the parameters that are used in the formulas.

5.      It is recommended to describe in more detail how the results obtained can be applied in the engineering practice of designing jacket pipes.

6.      Are experimental studies planned to validate the theoretical results obtained? How are you planning to continue this research?
