Improving Experiences of the Menopause for Women in Zimbabwe and South Africa: Co-Producing an Information Resource
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This study coproduced an information resource for women going through menopause in two African countries. The author presented the process of gathering information and producing resources for women in need. The content provided important information for researchers and public health practitioners.
Several issues should be addressed before this study meets the standard for publication.
One point potentially worthy of discussion is the use of complementary and alternative medicine (herbal medicine, folk medicine, etc) is treating menopausal related symptoms. How common was it for the women to seek care from these alternative sources? Do these treatments interfere with modern medical treatments? Are the healthcare professionals and other stakeholders aware of the alternative treatments and what their attitude was towards them? Answers to these questions might be important for the co-production of resources for the women in need.
How were the resource materials distributed, in addition to the website? Any off-line channels for distribution, given the potential digital divide and literacy issues in both countries? Dissemination process would be important in understanding whether the materials were accessible to women of all socioeconomic status.
What are some of the limitations of this study? This should be discussed.

This is an important work. Menopause is arguably one of the aspects of women's health that has received less attention in Sub-Saharan Africa. The paper opens with an informative introduction to the topic. An introduction that has been thoroughly researched! The study's design is good, and it was discussed in detail. The results, reflection, and discussion were all good, in my opinion. Only the direct statements (quotes) from the interviews, in my opinion, should have been included in the findings' description. However, this is a good paper!
