Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments to the authors:

1. The topic of “wirelessly energy harvesting” has been proposed in many literature. Therefore, it is too difficult for the Reviewer to find new points in this paper. This paper is developed from Ref. [16], but this reference was published long time ago.

2. Reference list in this paper is not adequate. Also, the authors did not compare the proposed scheme with the related works, which makes the Reviewer difficult to evaluate this paper.

3. The proposed system model is not new.

4. Equations (1) and (2) may be not correct. In the Reviewer’s opinion, there should be “-“ inside the exponential function.

5. Derivations in this paper are quite straightforward, which also limits the contribution of this paper.

6. The derivation technique is also not new because it is not different with the derivation of outage probability.

7. Results in Fig. 8 are trivial.

8. There are many typos in this paper.

The English Language of this paper needs to be improved.

Reviewer 2 Report

This paper presents an analysis of RF Energy Harvesting for Wireless Sensor Networks, considering two methods: point-to-point and multi-point-to-point energy harvesting, and two independent control protocols for each method. The paper is interesting and the following comments are given:

1. The Abstract only gives qualitative results ("the performance is better," "the MRC technology outperforms the SC"). Please, present quantitative results for adequate comparison.

2. Figure titles should be concise, instead of a two to three line description.

3. Please, be more precise in how your future work can apply your research results to the field of artifical hearts. What unexpected benefits you foresee?

4. As you grow your research on reference [16], please give a better discussion on how your results are different from those obtained in [16], both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Reviewer 3 Report

This paper studies the energy-harvesting based wireless sensor network, where the senosr nodes can harvest energy from the signal of base station and then transmit data to the base station using the harvested eneryg. The reviewer has the following concerns:

(1) Please clarify more clearly about which scheme of HHT and HDT performs better and why?

(2) The time allcoated to the energy harvesting and data transmission should be judiciously determined to maximize the system performance.

(3) Please explain how could the number of antennas at the base station affect the energy harvesting and the data transmission performance.

(4) Please clarify how could the sensors distribute in the network and how could the number of sensors affect the general performance of the whole network.

(5) Please clarify which decoding method, SC or MRC, performs better in the simulations, and why?

(6) The refereces are not in accordance with the format of the journal. The publication journal of each reference is missing.

(7) More references are needed to make a more sufficient survey of this area.

The presenation is relatively good.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

The revised version is more solid in technique and contribution. However, this paper should be revised one more time before it can be accepted for the publication:

1. The authors should add more explanation about the main contribution, new points and main difference between this paper and the related works in Section 1.

2. All the mathematical functions used in this paper need to be defined, i.e., exp function and Bessel function

3. TDMA should be written by full name one time in this paper

4. Many equations in this paper are not cited appropriately.

5. Typos “in Fig.??.”  before equation (9)

6. The authors should add some comparison about the complexity when MRC/SC is used.

7. Figures 6, 7, 8 have different sizes.

8.  Please provide all information of the references in this paper such as vol., num., page.

Moderate editing of English language is required.
