Variation in Hydraulic Properties of Forest Soils in Temperate Climate Zones
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This is an excellent and interesting study, the work is certainly good, and the scientific community will benefit from it. I have a few comments that the authors can find below:
General comments:
1. The classification of deciduous and conifer is not correct. To the best of my knowledge, they have some species in temperate forests categorized as deciduous conifers (e.g., Larix laricina). I prefer to say: mixed, needle-leaved, and broad-leaved forests.
2. I think in the introduction, the authors should appreciate more papers in temperate countries, such as Farahnak et al. (2019), Seiwa et al. (2021), and Li et al. (2021):

3. For the review paper, please add a flowchart describing the whole theme, including a number of studies research articles, their methods, categorization of articles, and number of articles in each category with their main output/contribution, etc., of the review should be added in the methodology section.
Specific comments:
L 14: How many studies?
L 16: How many studies?
L 23: Add the study's most important conclusion and research implications for forest managers.
L 41: Scientific name should be italic (i.e., Picea abies). Fix it through the paper.
L 104-1067: Do you have any citations for this classification?
L 313: "Soil "properties" is more common than soil "characteristics". Correct it in the text.
L 327: Add conclusions in a point-wise manner instead of paragraphs.

1. Authors have to introduce the the concept of " soil hydraulic properties", and its associated soil physical and chemical indexes in the Introduction section. Moreover, what is the scientifc significance of this study? What is the importance of SHP in the resistance to adversity for forests?
2. The literature infomation is very limitted, the analysis is too simple, thus no intresting conclusions were summarized.
Some correlation analysis should be perfomed, to let the readers know the relaships between tree age, specjes of trees.
I insisted that the authors must clarify the soil texture and climatic geographic information. Otherwise, the results is unconvincing.
3. Maybe readers want to known the changes/responses of the soil water, water holding capacity under the drought or other stress environments in different forest stands.

Round 2
Reviewer 1 Report
The work has improved considerably. I think it can be accepted in its current state.
Round 3
Reviewer 1 Report
The authors have adequately addressed all the comments raised by previous reviewers. Congratulation!
