It is a well-written, quality submission that meets the standards of reviews and meta-analyses. No particular problem. Just comments that could, if the authors see the point, make minor corrections.

First of all the title talks about chronic periodontitis. In order to be more in the " actuality " I would advise to approach the last classification of the periodontal diseases
Then in the introductory part (34-46), the data related to the impact of periodontal diseases are a little dated and are quite classical. I would suggest that we should look at Murray's work published in Lancet and reprinted elsewhere that updates the prevalence and incidence of periodontal disease in the form of DALYs.
Last point. I'm not sure of the interest to present in your results (398-423) on GI and PI. They are indicators, in my opinion, because of their subjective and "historical" criteria that do not add value (on the contrary) to your work.

But I repeat that my comments are not a requirement, at the most they should be considered as an opinion intended to make your submission more positive, more precisely towards periodontists.

Please write your reserach question using the PICO criteria. methods should list what strategy did you follow for systematic revuiew? What is the inclusion and exclusion criteria? the content is there in the paer but needs to be more organised. Did the authors include grey literaure? if not then why? How did youc ritically appraise the studies? Where is the PRISMA stratgey? MOOSE guidelines? Authors have missed out an important reference which they must include in discussion: Associations between oral hygiene habits, diet, tobacco and alcohol and risk of oral cancer: A case–control study from India B Gupta, F Bray, N Kumar, NW Johnson Cancer epidemiology 51, 7-14
