Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The authors reported the synthesis of (E)-4,2’,4’-trimethoxychalcone (Z)-N-tosyl hydrazone and its full characterization. The synthesis is well described, and the characterization is solid and complete.

I recommend the publication in Molbank after the following minor revisions:

  • On page 3, lines 85-86, the authors should clarify, as explained in paragraph 3.1, that the product was purified by flash column chromatography. I guess the crystallization step was necessary just for the structural assessment and not for the isolation of the product. Please, explain that better.
  • About the 1H-NMR characterization, there is a contradiction between the 1H-NMR spectrum reported in the SI and the characterization reported on page 5 in the main text: due to the presence of the CDCl3 signal in the spectrum, the integration of the multiplet at 7.24-7.40 ppm is reported as 3 protons in the spectrum copy (see Figures S1 and S2) and as 5 protons in the characterization reported on page 5. Anyway, the right number should be four: I recommend that the authors report the correct number of protons, either by integrating the CDCl3 signal too, or (better) by repeating the 1H-NMR spectrum in a different solvent, which cannot overlap with the aromatic part, such as CD2Cl2.
