Even while living circumstances and construction techniques have generally improved, occupants of these spaces frequently feel unsatisfied with the sense of security they provide, which leads to looking for and eventually enacting ever-more-effective safety precautions. The continuous uncertainty that contemporary individuals experience, particularly with regard to their protection in places like cities, prompted the field of computing to design smart devices that attempt to reduce threats and ultimately strengthen people’s sense of protection. Intelligent apps were developed to provide protection and make a residence a smart and safe home. The proliferation of technology for smart homes necessitates the implementation of rigorous safety precautions to protect users’ personal information and avoid illegal access. The importance of establishing cyber security has been recognized by academic and business institutions all around the globe. Providing reliable computation for the Internet of Things (IoT) is also crucial. A new method for enhancing safety in smart home environments’ sustainability using IoT devices is presented in this paper, combining the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) with Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs). WOA-DCNN hybridization seeks to enhance safety measures by efficiently identifying and averting possible attacks in real time. We show how effective the proposed approach is in defending smart home systems from a range of safety risks via in-depth testing and analysis. By providing a potential path for protecting smart home surroundings in a world that is growing more linked, this research advances the state of the art in IoT security. Full article

Research in the field of psychological health care has confirmed that chronic homesickness can exacerbate emotional problems. However, there is a lack of diverse products in the design field that can effectively address the issue of alleviating homesickness. This study explores how interaction design can mitigate homesickness-related anxiety while delivering a good user experience, from an application-driven perspective. An inclusive design approach was adopted. Firstly, an online survey was conducted in China through social media platforms (WeChat and websites), and 323 responses were analyzed to examine Chinese preferences for sounds that alleviate homesickness and the influence of various characteristics on the perception of hometown sounds. Secondly, personas were created to capture user needs. Based on regional differences, local sound characteristics, and adaptation to various audience backgrounds, this study examined the effects of these sounds on alleviating homesickness across different scenarios and proposed a sound therapy design model. The practical application of this model was demonstrated through the HomeSeek app, which provides personalized therapeutic experiences. Finally, an application usability test was conducted. The findings indicated that 92.5% of participants were satisfied with the homesickness therapy experience, demonstrating its effectiveness in alleviating homesickness and providing strong support for the research model. Background/Objectives: In recent years, the advent of new technologies has fostered their application in neuro-psychomotor and language rehabilitation, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic. Tele-rehabilitation has emerged as an innovative and timely solution, enabling personalized interventions monitored by clinicians. TABLET TOSCANA project aims to develop innovative tele-rehabilitation organizational models in children, adolescents and young adults with congenital and acquired developmental disabilities, using the Virtual Reality Rehabilitation System (VRRS) Home Kit and the MedicoAmico APP. Methods: The trial is designed according to the CONSORT statement guidelines. The project encompasses three phases: adapting the technologies for pediatric use, validating them through a wait-list study, and analyzing feasibility and effectiveness data to define new organizational models. A randomized wait-list-control study with 100 subjects aged 6 to 30 years will compare tele-rehabilitation versus prosecution of standard care. Discussion: Although literature highlights tele-rehabilitation benefits such as improved access, cost savings, and enhanced treatment adherence, practical implementation remains limited (i.e., the definition of standardized procedures). TABLET TOSCANA project seeks to address these gaps by focusing on multi-domain treatments for neurodevelopmental disabilities and emphasizing the integration of tele-rehabilitation into local health services. Conclusion: The project aims to improve the continuity and intensity of care through innovative models that integrate tele-rehabilitation into local health services. The results could inform healthcare policies and promote the development of innovative and collaborative models of care, paving the way for more effective and widespread tele-rehabilitation solutions and fostering collaborative networks among professionals. The emergence of the Internet of Things technologies and the increase and convenience of smart home devices have contributed to the growth of self-installed home security systems. While home security devices have become more accessible and can help users monitor and secure their homes, they can also become targets of cyberattacks and/or witnesses of criminal activities, hence sources of forensic evidence. To date, there is little existing literature on forensic analysis and the security and privacy of home security systems. In this paper, we seek to better understand and assess the forensic artifacts that can be extracted, the security and privacy concerns around the use of home security devices, and the challenges forensic investigators might encounter, by performing a comprehensive investigation of the SimpliSafe security system. We investigated the interaction of the security system with the SimpliSafe companion app on both Android and iOS devices. We analyzed the network traffic as the user interacts with the system to identify any security or privacy concerns. Our method can help investigators working on other home security systems, and our findings can further help developers to improve the confidentiality and privacy of user data in home security devices and their applications. While effective for slowing the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, public health measures, such as physical distancing and stay-at-home orders, have significantly shifted the way people interact and maintain social connections. To better understand how people sought social and psychological support amid the pandemic, we conducted a longitudinal qualitative evaluation of participants enrolled in a COVID-19 treatment trial (N = 30). All participants from the parent trial who consented to being contacted for future research studies were recruited electronically via email, and first-round virtual interviews were conducted between December 2020 and March 2021. Participants who participated in first-round interviews were contacted again, and follow-up interviews were conducted in January–February 2022. The results reported significant shifts in how participants connected to social support, including changes from physical to virtual modalities, and using different social networks for distinct purposes (i.e., Reddit/Facebook for information, WhatsApp for community connection). While having COVID-19, profound loneliness during isolation was described; yet, to mitigate effects, virtual support (i.e., emotional, knowledge-seeking) as well as in-person material support (e.g., groceries, snow-shoveling), were key. Public health efforts are needed to develop interventions that will improve the narratives about mental health challenges related to COVID-19 isolation, and to provide opportunities to share challenges in a supportive manner among social networks. Supporting social cohesion, despite the everchanging nature of COVID-19, will necessitate innovative multimodal strategies that learn from lived experiences across various stages of the pandemic.
