Under the condition of grid voltage imbalance, the circulation of the bridge arm inside the modular multilevel converter (MMC) increases significantly, which leads to the aggravation of the distortion of the bridge arm current, and, thus, increases the system loss and reduces the power quality. To address this problem, this paper analyzes the mechanism of circulating current generation and proposes a circulating current suppression strategy based on a reduced-order generalized integrator (ROGI), which firstly uses the ROGI system to separate the second-harmonic positive- and negative-sequence components in the circulating current from the DC, and then converts the rotating coordinates of the circulating current’s second octave component into the DC to be fed into the proportional–integral quasi-resonance (PIR) controller for suppression. A simulation model of a 23-level MMC inverter is built in MATLAB/Simulink, and the control strategy proposed in this paper is compared with the classical proportional–integral (PI) control in simulation experiments. The simulation results show that the amplitude of the circulating current fluctuation of the classical PI control is reduced from 90 A to 22 A, and the harmonic distortion rate of the bridge arm current is reduced from 32.56% to 5.57%; the amplitude of the circulating current fluctuation of the control strategy proposed in this paper is reduced from 90 A to 5.7 A, and the harmonic distortion rate of the bridge arm current is reduced from 20.2% to 1.13%, which verifies the effectiveness of the pro-posed control strategy. In this paper, an improved speed sensorless control method including the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for grid-connected squirrel-cage induction generator (SCIG) wind turbine systems using modified reduced-order generalized integrator (ROGI)–frequency-locked loop (FLL) with the DC offset compensation capability is proposed. The rotor flux linkages are estimated by the modified ROGI-FLL-based observer, of which the inputs are d-q axis rotor EMFs, and hence the position of rotor flux linkage can be obtained directly based on these estimated flux linkages using the arc tangent function. The DC offset in the estimated rotor flux linkages, which can cause oscillations in estimated rotor speed, leading to oscillations in SCIG stator active power due to power signal feedback (PSF)-MPPT algorithm, can be significantly reduced using the DC offset compensators included in modified ROGI-FLL structure. Moreover, the negative effects of high-frequency components on the performance of the rotor flux linkage estimation can be remarkably mitigated owing to the excellent high-frequency component rejection capability of ROGI. The dynamic response analysis of the modified ROGI-FLL with DC offset compensators is provided as well. The feasibility of the proposed method has been demonstrated in comparison with dual SOGI-FLL with DC offset compensator-based existing method. Full article

Grid-connected voltage source converters (GC-VSCs) are used for interfacing the distributed power generation system (DPGS) to the utility grid. Performance of the current loop is a critical issue for these GC-VSCs. Recently, reduced order generalized integrator (ROGI)-based current controller is proposed, such that AC reference signal of positive or negative sequences can be separately tracked without steady-state error, which has the advantage of less computational burden. However, the cross-coupling within the ROGI-based current controller would deteriorate the transient response of the current loop. In this paper, a ROGI-based decoupled current controller is proposed to eliminate the coupling between α -axis and β -axis. Thus, the faster dynamic response performance can be achieved while maintaining the merits of ROGI-based current controller. An optimal gain parameter design method for the proposed current controller is presented to improve the stability and dynamic response speed of current loop. Simulation and experiments were performed in MATLAB/Simulink and TMS320C28346 DSP-based laboratory prototype respectively, which validated the proposed theoretical approach. Full article
