The dual-credit policy, as an important emerging policy in the Chinese automotive industry intended to achieve energy savings, emissions reductions, and promote the development of new energy vehicles (NEVs), has attracted considerable attention from scholars. This study investigates how this policy affects the research and development (R&D) levels of both component suppliers and vehicle manufacturers in the automotive supply chain. Assuming the bounded rationality of the participants, we construct a complex dynamic evolutionary model under Stackelberg games to explore the impact of the policy on the dynamic game behavior and equilibrium stability of R&D levels. Furthermore, we examine the influences of various parameters on the R&D level complex system. The findings reveal that the disparity in the proportion of NEVs in the policy should not be too large; otherwise, bifurcation and chaos may occur in the R&D level game system. Moreover, higher supplier research efficiency contributes to the stability of R&D levels, while the higher credit trading price is not suitable for stable R&D levels. This paper theoretically reveals the dynamic impact of the dual-credit policy on the R&D levels in the automotive supply chain, bridging the gap between previous studies assuming decision-makers as fully rational and the reality of bounded rationality. It also provides managerial recommendations for the implementation details of this policy. Full article

Shigella is the second most common cause of moderate to severe diarrhea among children worldwide and of diarrheal disease-associated mortality in young children in low-and middle-income countries. In spite of many years of attempts to develop Shigella vaccines, no licensed vaccines are yet available. Injectable conjugate vaccines made of the detoxified lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of S. flexneri 2a, S. sonnei, and S. dysenteriae type 1 covalently bound to protein carriers were developed in the early 1990s by John B. Robbins and Rachel Schneerson at the US National Institutes of Health. This approach was novel for a disease of the gut mucosa, at a time when live, rationally attenuated oral vaccine strains that intended to mimic Shigella infection and induce a protective local immune response were extensively investigated. Of keystone support to Shigella glycoconjugates development were the findings of a strong association between pre-existent serum IgG antibodies to S. sonnei or S. flexneri 2a LPS and a lower risk of infection with the homologous Shigella serotypes among Israeli soldiers serving in field units. In view of these findings and of the successful development of the pioneering Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccines, it was hypothesized that protective immunity may be conferred by serum IgG antibodies to the O-Specific Polysaccharide (O-SP) following parenteral delivery of the conjugates. S. sonnei and S. flexneri 2a glycoconjugates induced high levels of serum IgG against the homologous LPS in phase I and II studies in healthy volunteers. The protective efficacy of a S. sonnei detoxified LPS-conjugate was further demonstrated in field trials in young adults (74%) and in children older than three years of age (71%), but not in younger ones. The evaluation of the Shigella conjugates confirmed that IgG antibodies to Shigella LPS are correlates of protection and provided solid basis for the development of a new generation of glycoconjugates and other injectable LPS-based vaccines that are currently in advanced stages of clinical evaluation. The judgments of decision-makers are frequently the best way to process the information on complex alternatives. However, the performances of the alternatives are often not observable in their entirety, which prevents researchers from conducting controlled empirical studies. This paper justifies a functional representation that, due to its good predictive results, has been widely used ad hoc in studies in different branches of knowledge; it formalizes aspects of the human mental structure that influence the ability of people to decide and the intentional bounded rationality, and it subsequently analyzes how the reliability of decision-makers is affected by the difficulty of the problem and the expertise and beliefs of the decision-maker. The main research objective of this paper is to derive explicitly a general functional form that represents the behavior of a decision-maker linked to their way of thinking. This functional form allows a laboratory to be created to study a priori the performance of human decisions, i.e., the probability of choosing each of the alternatives, once the returns of the alternatives, the level of expertise, and the initial beliefs of the decision-maker are known exogenously. This laboratory will allow (1) the evaluation of decision support techniques; (2) the creation of agent-based models that anticipate group performances due to individual interactions; and (3) the development of other investigations based on statistical simulations. This paper studies the impact on project duration of different forms of over-confidence among general contractors executing such projects, in the context of retail apparel franchises. It goes on to consider the design of relevant incentives and, in particular, a compensation mechanism included in the initial contract that covers the event of contractor dismissal. This mechanism is examined as a means of hedging risk arising from the behavior of the principal. This includes a study of a two-way risk avoidance strategy, which is intended to make up for a shortfall in this regard in the existing literature. Outcomes derived from this research include the conclusion that different levels of confidence can have various impacts on optimal incentive coefficients and the effort level extracted from agents, thereby affecting the ultimate configuration of an optimal contract. Introducing a compensation mechanism covering the event of dismissal can serve to diminish the risk of an agent breaching their contract. This paper applies the concept of bounded rationality to a principal-agent model, ensuring conclusions that are attuned to reality. Full article
