This study examines the relationship between K-Pop and education migration to South Korea in the context of the global internet and the COVID-19 pandemic. It focuses on the phenomenon in which local Asian territories have been widely influenced by the Korean Wave, particularly K-Pop, even during the era of global communication and health risks. This research illuminates some intriguing aspects of the distinctive reception patterns of Korean Wave audiences, as well as their unique characteristics, such as innocence, transgression, and the nuanced dynamics of the fandom during that period. Furthermore, this research engages critically with controversial aspects of cultural politics, such as the transmission of the legacy of K-Pop and the centralisation of femininity more actively. This study concludes that K-Pop has recently been relocated to the conjunctures of mediated and overdetermined influences on students’ education migration to South Korea rather than acting as a direct power and reason for it, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid digitalisation of education. Background: The healthcare sector is under increasing pressure due to an ageing population, rising multimorbidity, and a projected global workforce shortage of 10 million by 2030. It is becoming increasingly apparent that addressing these challenges requires more than simply increasing workforce numbers—it necessitates a shift towards innovative practices in healthcare education. Higher education (HE) plays a crucial role in preparing future healthcare professionals, yet embedding innovation within HE presents challenges such as resistance to change, resource limitations, and difficulties in interdisciplinary collaboration. This review explores the barriers and opportunities associated with fostering innovation in HE health programmes. Methods: This narrative review explored the recent literature on innovation in healthcare HE, examining national policies, institutional strategies, and emerging technological advancements. It describes the impact of digital learning tools, simulation-based education, artificial intelligence (AI), and interprofessional education (IPE) on student learning outcomes and workforce preparedness. Results: Findings suggest that while digitalisation and AI-driven innovations offer opportunities to enhance HE health programmes, their effectiveness is dependent on appropriate pedagogical integration and resource. Challenges include upskilling workforce to new more modern methods, ensuring equitable access to digital resources, and maintaining a balance between technological innovation and traditional face-to-face learning. Conclusions: To embed innovation effectively within healthcare HE, institutions may need to prioritise interdisciplinary collaboration, entrepreneurial thinking, and sustainable funding models. While technology is key to modernising education, it should be implemented alongside evidence-based pedagogical strategies to ensure meaningful learning outcomes and long-term workforce preparedness. Concrete has been one of the most essential building materials for decades, valued for its durability, cost efficiency, and wide availability of required components. Over time, the number of concrete bridges has been drastically increasing, highlighting the need for timely structural health monitoring (SHM) to ensure their safety and long-term durability. Therefore, a narrative review was conducted to examine the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-integrated techniques in the SHM of concrete bridges for more effective monitoring. Moreover, this review also examined significant damage observed in various types of concrete bridges, with particular emphasis on concrete cracking, detection methods, and identification accuracy. Evidence points to the fact that the conventional SHM of concrete bridges relies on manual inspections that are time-consuming, error-prone, and require frequent checks, while AI-driven SHM methods have emerged as promising alternatives, especially through Machine Learning- and Deep Learning-based solutions. In addition, it was noticeable that integrating multimodal AI approaches improved the accuracy and reliability of concrete bridge assessments. Furthermore, this review is essential as it also addresses critical gaps in SHM approaches and suggests developing more accurate detection techniques, providing enhanced spatial resolution for monitoring concrete bridges. The increasing digitalisation of healthcare has created a pressing need for health professionals to develop robust digital skills. This paper explores the imperative of equipping health professionals with the necessary digital proficiency to enhance their daily workflows and improve patient care. The expanding use of digital technologies, including electronic health records, telehealth, and artificial intelligence, has transformed the healthcare landscape. However, the adoption of these technologies has been hindered by barriers, such as a lack of interoperability and hesitancy among healthcare providers. To address these challenges, this paper argues that digital skill development must be a core component of healthcare education and professional training. Medical schools and healthcare organisations must prioritise the integration of digital health curricula and continuous learning opportunities to ensure that the next generation of healthcare providers is well-equipped to navigate the digital healthcare ecosystem. Additionally, this paper highlights the importance of fostering a culture of digital innovation and collaboration within healthcare settings. By empowering health professionals to actively participate in the development and testing of new digital health applications, the industry can unlock the full potential of digital technologies to enhance daily workflows and improve patient outcomes. Migraine is a common neurological disorder, affecting approximately 15% of the European population and is among the main causes of years lived with disability. In the context of increasing digitalisation, telecoaching (TC) is a new training modality that involves the use of digital tools to access and manage training services remotely. Given the well-documented benefits of physical activity in migraine management and the rapid expansion of digital health services following the COVID-19 pandemic, this scoping review aims to evaluate the use and feasibility of TC-based training programs in individuals with migraine. A systematic search was conducted on multiple databases (PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus) identifying 1507 studies, of which only 3 met the inclusion criteria. These studies collectively involved 181 participants with migraine and assessed various training programs, including aerobic training, resistance training, and physical therapy. Most training programs showed statistically significant improvements in several variables, including severity, duration, and frequency of migraine attacks. However, based on our study, there is limited evidence to suggest that TC training is beneficial for migraine patients. These findings underscore the need for further investigation, with more rigorous methodologies, higher-quality trials, and larger sample sizes to better establish the efficacy of TC training as a preventive and therapeutic approach for migraine. Background: Prostate cancer survivorship care is essential for the early identification of cancer recurrence and progression and the monitoring of adverse effects. Prostate cancer survivorship programs have enabled care to be shared between specialists using digital healthcare platforms. We systematically reviewed the literature to examine if prostate cancer survivorship care had been successfully digitalised. Methods: English language articles were searched on PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Libraries. The search terms included combinations of “eHealth”, “digital health”, “prostate cancer”, “shared care”, and related keywords (studies published between [1 January 1946 and 20 March 2023]). Results: Our search strategy yielded 1722 publications, of which 17 studies were included in our final review. Diverse eHealth interventions (web platforms, apps, patient portals) for digital prostate cancer shared care enabled communication, symptom management, and holistic assessment, with potential for reducing anxiety, enhancing outcomes, and increasing engagement. The studies (9 months to 5 years duration) involved participants across different care phases (16 to 3521 participants). We identified ten eHealth platforms, which provided successful symptom tracking, needs assessment, and communications. The platform-based interventions improved some aspects of communication, symptom management, and care delivery. The ongoing clinical need for a robust digital platform that caters to all domains of shared care was identified. Conclusions: eHealth will certainly play a central role in digital prostate cancer shared care, providing better health outcomes and care delivery. Future larger studies in this field should address the implementation barriers, including cost-effectiveness and primary care remuneration. It is also crucial to refine application useability and workflow, focusing on standardization and patient-centred approaches. Full article

Sustainability is becoming essential and actively debated in the food sector, influencing companies and stakeholders globally. Sustainability practices have been developed and integrated into food industry actions and policies to meet present needs without compromising future needs. The aim of this study was to explore the current sustainability practices across the food industry in Europe and how initiatives are developed, implemented and evaluated to achieve food sustainability targets. This study formed part of a larger European project (2022-1-IE01-KA220-VET-000087508 Digitalisation of Sustainable Health Education). In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 food industry employees with expertise in sustainability across Ireland, Poland, Lithuania, and Cyprus. Interviews were transcribed and thematically analysed. Three themes were identified: sustainable practices challenges, facilitators of green practice, and thinking to the future, Complying with the Science-Based Targets initiative, and setting emissions targets such net zero by 2050 and reducing waste output, drove sustainable activities. Participants identified barriers to initiative development and implementation including cost, monitoring time, product quality, and employee engagement. Employee and stakeholder understanding were crucial to sustainability initiative success. Gaps in research were identified as the proliferation of environmental labels and greater company collaboration to share sustainability data. A key consideration highlighted in discussions was the importance of collaboration and education for raising awareness and strengthening the implementation and long-term maintenance of food sustainability practices within industry. Greater collaboration between large food companies to share raw sustainability metric data could strengthen initiative outcomes and raise greater awareness among stakeholders, bridging the knowledge gap with producers or stakeholders who operate on a smaller scale. The COVID-19 crisis has disrupted economies and societies and the sustainability characteristics of agri-food due to a significant decline in turnover, difficulties in transportation, and changes in market and contact habits. An analysis was carried out using the PRISMA protocol and the Scopus, Web of Science, and Science Direct electronic databases. The aim of this research is to present the main research issues in agri-food sustainability (economic, environmental, and social issues) in the pre-COVID-19 period, to compare it with the research trends in the COVID-19 period, and to explore the influence of the epidemic. This research looks for research gaps and possible future research directions. Research before COVID-19 was primarily concerned with environmental and economic sustainability. The main focus areas were business development and environmental issues. During COVID-19, the focus shifted to economic sustainability. Survival was the primary issue. The main research areas were financial, inventory, waste management, and innovation issues. Food safety and digitalisation were highlighted. Precision agriculture, short food supply chains, and collaboration increased efficiency. The role of trust has increased. The COVID-19 experience is valuable for almost all disciplines. Policy, health, and economic decision-makers can apply better solutions to future crises. Full article

It is since the beginning of the so-called ‘digital revolution’ in the 1950s that technological tools have been developed to simplify and optimise traditional, time-consuming, and laborious anamnestic collection for many physicians. In recent years, more and more sophisticated ‘automated’ anamnestic collection systems have been developed, to the extent that they can actually enter daily clinical practice. This article not only provides a historical overview of the evolution of such tools, but also explores the ethical and medico-legal implications of the transition from traditional to digital anamnesis, including the protection of data confidentiality, the preservation of the communicative effectiveness of the doctor–patient dialogue and the safety of care in patients with poor digital and health literacy. Digital health technologies (DHTs) at the intersection of health, medical informatics, and business aim to enhance patient care through personalised digital approaches. Ensuring the efficacy and reliability of these innovations demands rigorous clinical validation. A PubMed literature review (January 2006 to July 2023) identified 1250 papers, highlighting growing academic interest. A focused narrative review (January 2018 to July 2023) delved into challenges, highlighting issues such as diverse regulatory landscapes, adoption issues in complex healthcare systems, and a plethora of evaluation frameworks lacking pragmatic guidance. Existing frameworks often omit crucial criteria, neglect empirical evidence, and clinical effectiveness is rarely included as a criterion for DHT quality. The paper underscores the urgency of addressing challenges in accreditation, adoption, business models, and integration to safeguard the quality, efficacy, and safety of DHTs. A pivotal illustration of collaborative efforts to address these challenges is exemplified by the Digital Health Validation Center, dedicated to generating clinical evidence of innovative healthcare technologies and facilitating seamless technology transfer. In conclusion, it is necessary to harmonise evaluation approaches and frameworks, improve regulatory clarity, and commit to collaboration to integrate rigorous clinical validation and empirical evidence throughout the DHT life cycle. Machine learning is a widespread technology that plays a crucial role in digitalisation and aims to explore rules and patterns in large datasets to autonomously solve non-linear problems, taking advantage of multiple source data. Due to its versatility, machine learning can be applied to agriculture. Better crop management, plant health assessment, and early disease detection are some of the main challenges facing the agricultural sector. Plant phenotyping can play a key role in addressing these challenges, especially when combined with machine learning techniques. Therefore, this study reviews available scientific literature on the applications of machine learning algorithms in plant phenotyping with a specific focus on sunflowers. The most common algorithms in the agricultural field are described to emphasise possible uses. Subsequently, the overview highlights machine learning application on phenotyping in three primaries areas: crop management (i.e., yield prediction, biomass estimation, and growth stage monitoring), plant health (i.e., nutritional status and water stress), and disease detection. Finally, we focus on the adoption of machine learning techniques in sunflower phenotyping. The role of machine learning in plant phenotyping has been thoroughly investigated. Artificial neural networks and stacked models seems to be the best way to analyse data. Full article

Background: Learning arrangements in health care profession education are increasingly taking place in digital environments. Virtual reality (VR) in nursing education, as a digital element, is the subject of controversial debate. On one hand, it supports the authenticity of case studies by adding realistic perspectives and information. On the other hand, the costs of developing and maintaining software and hardware hinder its long-term implementation. Based in the German context, our aim is to promote the adoption of innovative digital methods in nursing education and to offer invaluable experiences from the field. Methods: In this paper, we describe our findings and insights from two different research projects focused on the incorporation of digital tools, particularly VR, into nursing education. Results: Starting with a brief recapitulation of the projects, we elucidate pedagogical strategies for embedding VR-driven scenarios in nursing education. Based on our experiences during the projects, we identify various positive aspects, such as changing perspective and simulating acute situations. Key findings: Although potential drawbacks remain, we advocate the long-term implementation and specific use of VR at the interface between theory and practice. Nevertheless, it is crucial to establish regular evaluation, observing the value of digitalisation, especially VR, for nursing education. Full article

This study aimed to analyse the impact of digitalisation on good governance with respect to selected local public administrations during the COVID-19 lockdown in the spring of 2020. The overriding assumption made is that agile values mediate the relationship between digitalisation and good governance on this level of public administration. Data were obtained through a web-based survey conducted between June and August 2020. The empirical analysis was facilitated by applying partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) on a sample of 761 public managers from five Central European countries (Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Romania, Slovenia). The results show that digitalisation acted as an essential driver of good governance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Three out of four agile values—“employees and internal relationships”, “working public services”, and “change management”—were also shown to help make digitalisation more effective and thereby facilitate good governance. Despite some limitations (e.g., respondents’ subjective evaluations, the study only being performed during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the observed countries with different situations and consequent measures in response, and differences in the broader environment and local administration systems in the studied countries), the findings of the study are important given the lack of similar empirical studies. Public administrations should be digitalised and reformed in a way that ensures that they effectively and efficiently design, implement, measure, and continuously improve their strategies, tactics, and services, which can all be accomplished by being agile. The paper offers insights into: (1) the lessons learnt about the nature of digitalised public services/processes and agile management approaches in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and their impact on good governance; and (2) proposals for policymakers and managers in public administrations with regard to operating in extreme VUCA circumstances in any next wave of COVID-19 pandemic or in a new pandemic/public health disaster. Experiences of Remote Provision across a Voluntary Sector Organisation Providing Mental Health and Wellbeing Services for Young People

The global COVID-19 pandemic presented not only challenges for services but also opportunities for reflection and change. This study aimed to understand young people, parents/carers, and professionals’ experiences of remote provision across a voluntary sector organization to inform the nature of future delivery. Reflections from professionals (n = 7), young people (n = 7), and parents/carers (n = 2) were collected through semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Data were thematically analysed. Five overarching themes were identified: ‘Accessibility’, ‘Remote therapeutic experiences’, ‘Translating to online’, ‘Spaces of comfort/discomfort’, and ‘Moving towards hybrid provision’. The COVID-19 pandemic changed service provision, notably with accelerated digitalisation. Although the service became more accessible, the digitalisation of services impacted the relational experiences for young people. Nevertheless, online provision was described as a ‘steppingstone’, allowing young people to engage in online therapy or group programmes before transferring to in-person provision. Although remote provision can lead to improvements in young people’s mental health, this format was not suitable for all. When considering future models of provision, assessing needs, preferences, and access to private space and hardware are all important considerations when deciding which format to use to achieve the best possible outcomes. Public warning systems are an essential element of safe cities. However, the functionality of neither traditional nor digital emergency warnings is understood well enough from the perspective of citizens. This study examines smart city development from the perspective of safety by exploring citizens’ viewpoints. It investigates people’s perceptions of the ways in which they obtain warnings and information about emergencies involving health risks. Data were collected in the form of focus group interviews and semi-structured interviews in Finland, Germany, and Greece. The results suggest that people place a lot of trust in their social network, receiving text messages, and their ability to use web-based search engines in order to obtain public warnings. The study discusses the challenges identified by citizens in the use of conventional radio and television transmissions and sirens for public warnings. Based on the results, citizens demonstrate informed ignorance about existing mobile emergency applications. Our results imply that it is not sufficient to build emergency communication infrastructure: the development of smart, safe cities requires continuous work and the integration of both hard and soft infrastructure-oriented strategies, i.e., technological infrastructure development including digitalisation and education, advancement of knowledge, and participation of people. Both strategic aspects are essential to enable people to take advantage of novel digital applications in emergency situations. Full article
