This study presents the development and validation of an AI-based system for detecting chainsaw sounds, integrated into a fixed-wing VTOL UAV. The system employs a convolutional neural network trained on log-mel spectrograms derived from four sound classes: chainsaw, music, electric drill, and human voices. Initial validation was performed through ground testing. Acoustic data acquisition is optimized during cruise flight, when wing-mounted motors are shut down and the rear motor operates at 40–60% capacity, significantly reducing noise interference. To address residual motor noise, a preprocessing module was developed using reference recordings obtained in an anechoic chamber. Two configurations were tested to capture the motor’s acoustic profile by changing the UAV’s orientation relative to the fixed microphone. The embedded system processes incoming audio in real time, enabling low-latency classification without data transmission. Field experiments confirmed the model’s high precision and robustness under varying flight and environmental conditions. Results validate the feasibility of real-time, onboard acoustic event detection using spectrogram-based deep learning on UAV platforms, and support its applicability for scalable aerial monitoring tasks. (1) Background: The Patterned Sensory Enhancement (PSE) technique refers to a music-based rehabilitation therapy strategy used in neurological pathologies. (2) Methods: This study aims at developing a music-drill protocol for recovery in elderly patients with neuromuscular degenerative pathologies. Each music drill is based on a number of specific music-composition parameters. The conclusions represent suggestions for further enhancing the PSE technique through collaborations between the rehabilitation team and the musicians involved due to the importance of the music stimuli used as a therapy. (3) Results: The music-composition parameters used in this study relate to the existence of music homogeneity factors such as the key signature and rhythm; the importance of the major scale and the tonal system in general; the obvious music suggestions of movement, repetition or absence of movement; the importance of rhythm; the introduction of musical instruments in order to harmonize the music material as much as possible; the connection between PSE music along with patients’ musical taste and the musical recording as a therapy during patient outcare; (4) Conclusions: The therapy efficiency was observed by measurements taken before and after the therapeutic intervention by means of a Takei dynamometer. The present study asserts that for a patient undergoing the PSE technique, the researcher should compose personalized music material adapted to each patient’s peculiarities. Full article

Background: The criminalisation of drill music, a rap-based genre, is a recent chapter in a long history of policing “Black” music. The association of drill and other rap music with “gang” violence has a direct impact on the treatment of Black boys and men in the criminal justice system. However, critics argue that, rather than causing violence, violent lyrics reflect the lived experiences of marginalised communities. Method: Using a qualitative approach, this study analysed the lyrical content of 90 drill, grime, and other rap-based songs by UK artists, using thematic analysis. Findings: The following themes were found: social issues in the local area and community, involvement in crime, social status, coping with adversity, social support network, police, and escaping. Collectively, the themes highlight a narrative of Black boys and men who have experienced a range of adversities such as poverty, racism, child criminal exploitation, and community violence. Conclusions: Artists who make reference to drugs and violence in their lyrics also discuss adverse experiences and the impact of these, supporting the view that violent lyrics are a reflection of lived experience. Thus, focusing on criminalising rap music may be deflecting attention from risk factors for serious youth violence that are evidence-based. Full article
