Social media (SM) use and the burden on healthcare systems have concurrently increased, with the latter resulting in longer wait times and higher costs. As a result, more people seem to use social media to access health information (HI). This study explores how SM is used for accessing HI within an under-resourced community. In this mixed methods study, respondents (N = 256) completed online English and Spanish Qualtrics surveys assessing their use of healthcare services and social media, and its use for HI. We also explored respondents’ experience in understanding and using the HI they found on SM. Qualitative inquiries (N = 7) included focus groups and key informant interviews and expanded on the survey results. Results indicated that most participants used SM for HI. Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok were associated with looking up HI before and after receiving care and for health decision-making and for considering treatments or medication after seeing information about these on social media. To create effective messaging that is accepted, relatable and easy to access for the audiences they seek to reach, healthcare organizations must understand how SM is used as a source of HI. Exploring the associations between SM algorithms, health literacy, access to healthcare and SM use can help improve health communication strategies to be used on SM platforms. Full article

In an increasingly technological society, online social networks are essential to support consumer purchasing decisions, primarily through User Generated Content (UGC). In this research, we look at the influence of UGC on purchase intent applied to the tourism product on the TikTok social network. In this sense, a survey was applied to TikTok users aged between 18 and 42 to compare their behaviour with that of the two generations: Millennials and Centennials. The results indicate a relationship of influence between credibility and the usefulness of information and between usefulness and social influence on the intention to buy tourism products and services. In addition, a comparison was made between the results of the sample of individuals belonging to the Millennial Generation and the sample of individuals belonging to the Centennial Generation, with the main discrepancy in the results being the relationship between the need for information and the usefulness of information. These insights pave the way for further research aimed at establishing more robust conclusions in this area. Full article

Diverse multivariate statistics are powerful tools for musical analysis. A recent study identified relationships among different versions of the composition Sadhukarn from Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia using non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) and cluster analysis. However, the datasets used for NMDS and cluster analysis require musical knowledge and complicated manual conversion of notations. This work aims to (i) evaluate a novel approach based on multivariate statistics of potential note degree of rhyme structure and pillar tone (Look Tok) for musical analysis of the 26 versions of the composition Sadhukarn from Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia; (ii) compare the multivariate results obtained by this novel approach and with the datasets from the published method using manual conversion; and (iii) investigate the impact of normalization on the results obtained by this new method. The result shows that the novel approach established in this study successfully identifies the 26 Sadhukarn versions according to their countries of origin. The results obtained by the novel approach of the full version were comparable to those obtained by the manual conversion approach. The normalization process causes the loss of identity and uniqueness. In conclusion, the novel approach based on the full version can be considered as a useful alternative approach for musical analysis based on multivariate statistics. In addition, it can be applied for other music genres, forms, and styles, as well as other musical instruments. Full article

This article explores how disabled girl handlers crip girlhood on service dog tok, the emergent subculture on TikTok comprised of disabled handlers who upload and post videos about their everyday life in partnership with a service dog. Looking at the TikTok accounts and self-representational practices of three disabled girl handlers—Ava of @avaandcheddar, Claire of @rosie.the.sd, and Lexy of @muslimservicedogmom28—this article traces how their videos evince an audio–visual representation of interspecies intimacy, a becoming with, that complicates the familiar story of the disabled girl handler/service dog dyad that one might see or scroll past online—one of rehabilitative exceptionalism, disability disavowal, and chrononormative understandings of girlhood. On service dog tok, Ava, Claire, Lexy, and their service dogs broadcast the quotidian and move against a service dog sentimentalism that seeks to depoliticize disability and the relationship between disabled handlers and their service dogs. Their videos produce and circulate a nuanced understanding of interdependence, care, and ableism forged via the mutual entanglement with their service dogs. Ultimately, this article argues that disabled girl handlers on service dog tok upend what we think we know about disabled girls and girlhoods, recasting the meanings ascribed to their bodyminds, experiences, and their relationships with their service dogs in their own terms. Sadhukarn plays an important role as the most sacred music composition in Thai, Cambodian, and Lao music cultural areas. Due to various versions of unverified Sadhukarn main melodies in three different countries, notating melodies in suitable formats with a systematic method is necessary. This work provides a data descriptor for music transcription related to 25 different versions of the Sadhukarn main melody collected in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. Furthermore, we introduce a new procedure of music analysis based on rhyme structure. The aims of the study are to (1) provide Thai/Western musical note comprehension in the forms of Western staff and Thai notation, and (2) describe the procedures for translating from musical note to rhyme structure. To generate a rhyme structure, we apply a Thai poetic and linguistic approach as the method establishment. Rhyme structure is composed of melodic structures, the pillar tones Look-Tok, and melodic rhyming outline. Full article

TikTok, along with other social media platforms, has emerged as one of the most important tools for many people, particularly millennials. Because the relationship between social media and customers’ behavioral intentions has long been a topic of discussion in the hospitality industry, the purpose of this study was to look into the potential determinants of customers’ visiting intentions toward Universal Studios Beijing on short video platforms such as TikTok. In addition, descriptive analysis was also conducted to show the demographic and other basic characteristics of the sample. The findings revealed that social interaction, informativeness, and trust had significant effects on perceived usefulness, as well as significant influences on the related visiting intentions from the perceived usefulness, ease of use, and playfulness. This study filled in the research gaps of the TikTok studies based on the extended technology acceptance model (TAM) and explored the effects of perceived playfulness on the theme park. This study can contribute to the formulation of operational and marketing strategies by theme park marketers, help internet vloggers with content creation and development, and provide suggestions to local governments for tourism destination management.
