Extreme rainfall-induced events adversely affect agriculture, infrastructure, and socioeconomic development in a region. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of their occurrences and past and future variability in the context of global warming is imperative, especially at the fine temporal (sub-daily) and spatial (local to regional) scales for better contextualizing inferences from a policymaking perspective. This study provides a detailed analysis of global warming’s impacts on extreme rainfall in Jiangsu Province, utilizing the latest high-resolution ERA5-Land reanalysis data and the latest climate models. A novel temporal disaggregation model was developed to predict future hourly extreme rainfall. The results show that the bias-corrected model reduced the overestimation of extremes by as much as ~7.4% for the location parameter and accurately reproduced the spatial variability of rainfall. Projections from eight climate models indicate a future increase in rainfall intensity by an average of over 7%. Moreover, the projections indicate two contrasting trends for different event durations: short-duration events (e.g., 1 h) show a 7.1% increase at the 5-year return period and a more pronounced 8.9% increase at the 50-year return period. Conversely, long-duration events (e.g., 24 h) experience an 8.4% increase at the 5-year return period and a smaller 6.0% increase at the 50-year return period. This suggests that rarer, short-duration events are expected to increase more than less rare ones, while rarer, long-duration events show a smaller increase than their less rare counterparts. Addressing spatial heterogeneity in extreme rainfall patterns provides actionable insights for climate adaptation and mitigation, supporting initiatives like the ‘Jiangsu Province Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan’. This study underscores the need for policy-driven, community-led climate actions to mitigate flood risks and enhance resilience in a region vulnerable to flooding amidst global warming and increasing human interventions. Approximately 0.7% of infants are born with congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV), making it the most common congenital infection. About 1 in 5 congenitally infected babies will suffer long-term sequelae, including sensorineural deafness, intellectual disability, and epilepsy. CMV infection is highly species-dependent, and the rhesus CMV (RhCMV) infection of rhesus monkey fetuses is the only animal model that replicates essential features of congenital CMV (cCMV) infection in humans, including placental transmission, fetal disease, and fetal loss. Using experimental data from RhCMV seronegative rhesus macaques inoculated with RhCMV in the late first to early second trimesters of pregnancy, we built and calibrated a mathematical model for the placental transmission of CMV. The model was then used to study the effect of the timing of inoculation, maternal immune suppression, and hyper-immune globulin infusion on the risk of placental transmission in the context of primary and reactivated chronic maternal CMV infection. The thrust bearing, as the only part bearing the axial load, is extremely important in vertical hydroelectric generating units. Its working condition directly affects the safe and reliable operation of the hydroelectric generating unit. However, during operation, the oil film is easily damaged under the influence of complex factors. Installation deviation is a key point that can cause temperature and pressure changes in the oil film, affecting the force on the bearing. This article takes the thrust bearing model of the 1000 MW Francis turbine unit of the Baihetan Power Station as the research object. Based on the fluid–solid coupling theory and CFD technology, the oil film characteristics of thrust bearings are analyzed, and the influence of inclination angles and installation deviation on the oil film flow performance of thrust bearings is discussed. The results show that as the inclination angle changes from 0.0030° to 0.0048°, the axial force changes from 856 t to 368 t, and there is an approximate linear correlation between them. The radial installation deviation has an effect on the axial force. Under the optimal working condition of an inclination angle of 0.0039°, when the radial deviation of the pad changes from 0 mm to 1 mm, the axial force changes from 1573 t to 1275 t. In the process of unit installation, it is necessary to pay attention to the installation deviation of the pad. The results provide guidance for the installation of the bearing, which helps to ensure the safe and stable operation of the station. Full article

A perovskite catalyst combined with various advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) to treat organic wastewater attracted extensive attention. The physical and chemical catalytic properties of perovskite were largely related to oxygen vacancies (OVs). In this paper, the recent advances in the regulation of OVs in perovskite for enhancing the functionality of the catalyst was reviewed, such as substitution, doping, heat treatment, wet-chemical redox reaction, exsolution, and etching. The techniques of detecting the OVs were also reviewed. An insight was provided into the OVs of perovskite and reduction mechanism in AOPs in this review, which is helpful for the reader to better understand the methods of regulating and detecting OVs in various AOPs.
