The myogenic differentiation of muscle satellite cells (MuSCs) is an important biological process that plays a key role in the regeneration and repair of skeletal muscles. However, the mechanisms regulating myoblast myogenesis require further investigation. In this study, we found that STEAP3 is involved in myogenic differentiation based on the Yunan black pig MuSCs model in vitro using cell transfection and other methods. Furthermore, the expression of myogenic differentiation marker genes MyoG and MyoD and the number of myotubes formed by the differentiation of cells from the si-STEAP3 treated group were significantly decreased but increased in the STEAP3 overexpression group compared to that in the control group. STEAP3 played a role in iron ion metabolism, affecting myogenic differentiation via the uptake of iron ions and enhancing IRP-IRE homeostasis. STEAP3 also activated the PI3K/AKT pathway, thus promoting myoblast differentiation of Yunan black pig MuSCs. The results of this study showed that STEAP3 overexpression increased intracellular iron ion content and activated the homeostatic IRP-IRE system to regulate intracellular iron ion metabolism. Background: Few studies have investigated the combined impact of healthy lifestyle factors on glycemic control. Our study aimed to examine the associations of a healthy lifestyle score (HLS) with glycemic control and to explore the interactive effects of lifestyle factors among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in China. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among T2DM patients based on the health management of residents from Guangzhou, China. Good glycemic control was defined as fasting plasma glucose < 7.0 mmol/L. HbA1c < 7.0% was also defined as good glycemic control in sensitivity analysis. The HLS was defined as including physical activity, waist circumference, body mass index, dietary habit, smoking, and alcohol consumption. Logistic regression models were used to examine the associations and interactions between the lifestyle factors and glycemic control. Results: Compared with participants with an HLS ≤ 2, the odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) for an HLS of 3, 4, 5, and 6 were 0.82 (0.77–0.87), 0.74 (0.70–0.79), 0.61 (0.57–0.65), and 0.56 (0.53–0.60), respectively. Significant interactions of healthy lifestyle factors in relation to glycemic control were shown (Pinteraction < 0.05). Conclusions: A healthier lifestyle was significantly associated with good glycemic control in patients with T2DM, and combined healthy lifestyle factors had a better effect than considering them individually. FeCoNiCrMo0.2 high entropy alloy has many excellent properties, such as high strength, high wear resistance, high corrosion resistance, and high ductility. To further improve the properties of this coating, FeCoNiCrMo high entropy alloy (HEA) coatings, and two composite coatings, FeCoNiCrMo0.2 + WC and FeCoNiCrMo0.2 + WC + CeO2, were prepared on the surface of 316L stainless steel by laser cladding technology. After adding WC ceramic powder and CeO2 rare earth control, the microstructure, hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the three coatings were carefully studied. The results show that WC powder significantly improved the hardness of the HEA coating and reduced the friction factor. The FeCoNiCrMo0.2 + 32%WC coating showed excellent mechanical properties, but the distribution of hard phase particles in the coating microstructure was uneven, resulting in unstable distribution of hardness and wear resistance in each region of the coating. After adding 2% nano-CeO2 rare earth oxide, although the hardness and friction factor decreased slightly compared with the FeCoNiCrMo0.2 + 32%WC coating, the coating grain structure was finer, which reduced the porosity and crack sensitivity of the coating, and the phase composition of the coating did not change; there was a uniform hardness distribution, a more stable friction coefficient, and the flattest wear morphology. In addition, under the same corrosive environment, the value of polarization impedance of the FeCoNiCrMo0.2 + 32%WC + 2%CeO2 coating was greater, the corrosion rate was relatively low, and the corrosion resistance was better. Therefore, based on various indexes, the FeCoNiCrMo0.2 + 32%WC + 2%CeO2 coating has the best comprehensive performance and can extend the service life of 316L workpieces. Full article

Exposure to endogenous sex hormones has been reported as a risk factor for breast cancer. The CYP11A1 gene encodes the key enzyme that catalyzes the initial and rate-limiting step in steroid hormone synthesis. In this study, the associations between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CYP11A1 and breast cancer susceptibility were examined. Six SNPs in CYP11A1 were genotyped using the MassARRAY IPLEX platform in 530 breast cancer patients and 546 healthy controls. Association analyses based on a χ2 test and binary logistic regression were performed to determine the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for each SNP. Two loci (rs2959008 and rs2279357) showed evidence of associations with breast cancer risk. The variant genotype C/T-C/C of rs2959008 was significantly associated with a decreased risk (age-adjusted OR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.58–0.96; P = 0.023) compared with the wild-type TT. However, the homozygous TT variant of rs2279357 exhibited increased susceptibility to breast cancer (age-adjusted OR, 1.44; 95% CI, 1.05–1.98; P = 0.022). The locus rs2959003 also showed an appreciable effect, but no associations were observed for three other SNPs. Our results suggest that polymorphisms of CYP11A1 are related to breast cancer susceptibility in Han Chinese women of South China. Full article
