Preprints.org Commences 10th Anniversary Celebrations: First Decade of Open Research Sharing, Together

The year 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Preprints.org, a multidisciplinary preprint server supported by MDPI.

Since its launch in 2016, Preprints.org has evolved into a global platform where researchers share their work, exchange feedback, and collectively advance open knowledge. Over the past decade, it has become a meaningful part of the global open science community. Through initiatives such as the ‘Preprint Friendly Journals’ program, the platform works in synergy and maintains partnerships with a wide range of journals to bridge the gap between the need for rapid dissemination and the formal publication process.

To commemorate the 10-year journey, we are launching a year-long anniversary event themed “Our First Decade of Open Research Sharing, Together.” We invite the community to engage with the following curated activities:

  • Popular Preprints of the Decade Award: We will celebrate 110 popular preprints across 11 subject categories, with the 10 most popular preprints in each field decided by community vote. Submissions remain open until May 11, 2026, with community voting set to begin in September and winners to be announced in December. We warmly invite you to join the award by submitting your recent work and casting votes for your favorite preprint.
  • #MyMostMemorablePreprint: We invite you to share the stories behind the preprints that witnessed your academic life. Whether it was the first posting or a breakthrough, celebrate your personal memories alongside ours. Starting now, join the conversation on social media.
  • Weekly Live Q&A: From May to July, we will host a weekly 'Ask Me Anything' live Q&A series. This initiative is designed to bridge the information gap by providing real-time answers to your questions about preprints and open science.

Visit the Preprints.org 10th Anniversary celebration hub for more details of these activities.

This anniversary is not just a celebration of the past, but a vision for the future. As Preprints.org steps into the next decade, our commitment to accelerating scientific discovery remains stronger than ever. We extend our deepest gratitude to our community for being part of this journey.
