Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
For a long time, research on coping and acculturation has either examined these processes in isolation or has considered them primarily in non-refugee contexts. This is striking, given that established acculturation models have long postulated a complex and intertwined relationship between coping processes and acculturation dynamics. Among young refugees, this interrelation is particularly salient. Their everyday lives are often shaped by multiple pre-migration adversities as well as ongoing post-migration stressors, which may constrain daily functioning and well-being. At the same time, the resettlement context intensifies acculturation processes, rendering questions of adaptation, identity negotiation, and coping especially consequential.
Against this background, this Special Issue invites contributions that address the interplay between coping and acculturation among young refugees worldwide. We particularly welcome studies that focus on young refugees’ everyday experiences and affective states within their specific contextual conditions, as well as research that examines the resources available in their life contexts and how these resources are accessed, mobilized, and utilized in coping with daily stressors and acculturative challenges.
