Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues
"Rewilding” has emerged as a significant paradigm shift in ecological thought and practice, aiming to counter the effects of the commodification of nature and the exploitation of natural resources. Although criticized as a return to a romantic ideal of a natural state rooted in the nature–culture binary, rewilding has played a crucial role in advancing conservation efforts by emphasizing a strong notion of realism in the conversations about ecosystems on the brink of collapse.
Contributors to this Special Issue collection will address questions such as the following: What could a rewilding of the humanities look like? How might current developments in ecocriticism be interpreted as engaging with the core principles of rewilding? Does the difficulty of undoing the anthropocentric perspectivism of the discourse on human and non-human interconnectedness find expression in the ecological realism of rewilding strategies?
What insights can be gained by conceptualizing the Erkenntnisinteresse (Habermas) of the humanities within the paradigm of the theory and practices of rewilding? Can the latter offer direction to the educational and curricular debates on the role of the humanities in addressing pending ecological collapse?
