Editors select a small number of articles recently published in the journal that they believe will be particularly interesting to readers, or important in the respective research area. The aim is to provide a snapshot of some of the most exciting work published in the various research areas of the journal.

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Kent Doi has accepted our invitation to assume the role of Co-Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM, ISSN: 2077-0383). With his extensive background in scientific research and publishing and his unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, Prof. Doi brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this prestigious position. JCM is one of the world’s leading medical journals. Prof. Doi will work closely with his fellow Co-Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Emmanuel Andrès, to build on its legacy and take the journal to new levels of insight and influence.
Prof. Kent Doi is a professor at the University of Tokyo Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, and Chairman of the hospital’s Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine. He received his M.D., Ph.D. and residency training at the University of Tokyo Hospital. This was followed by research work in nephrology at Japan’s National Institutes of Health / the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIH/NIDDK) from 2005 to 2007. Between 2008 and 2021, Prof. Doi occupied the positions of Assistant Professor, Lecturer, and Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo Hospital.
At the University of Tokyo today, Prof. Doi is a clinical and basic research investigator. His research interests include sepsis, multiple organ failure, acute kidney injury, and blood purification. Prof. Doi is a Fellow of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine (FJSIM) as well as a Councilor and Board-Certified Nephrologist of the Japanese Society of Nephrology (JSN) and of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine (JSICM). Known for his strict focus on patient well-being, he is very active internationally, maintaining regular contact with an extensive network of clinical specialists around the world.
