Nutrients' 2013 Impact Factor - Thank you message for all contributors and readers by the Editors-in-Chief

Nutrients is pleased to announce that its new impact factor for 2014 is 3.148. This impact factor ranks Nutrients as 23rd out of 78 journals that are presently published in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics, placing it in the second quartile of journals in the field. This is a significant achievement given the journal was only launched in 2009, and first added to scientific indexing databases in 2011. Nutrients received its first impact factor of 0.676 in 2012; this increased to 2.072 in 2013, and has now increased again to reach 3.148.

The increasing impact factor has resulted in an increasing number of submissions to Nutrients, with almost 600 submissions being received in 2013. While Nutrients is an open-access, on-line journal and is therefore not restricted in the number of papers it can publish per year, we aim to publish only high quality papers after rigorous peer-review and, to this aim, our rejection rate now exceeds 50% of submissions. This decision to publish only quality research papers has no doubt contributed to the rapid increase in the journals impact factor and the rapidly growing reputation of Nutrients as an important journal in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics research.

In addition to its growing reputation and increasing impact factor, the number of published articles being accessed on-line has also grown in recent years, with more than 70,000 full papers being accessed in 2013. This demonstrates the substantial contribution that Nutrients now makes to keeping the research community informed of some of the most recent and exciting developments in Nutrition and Dietetics research and to advancing knowledge in the field.

The Editors-in-Chief are very grateful to our Editorial Board members and to the staff of the publisher of Nutrients (MDPI) for their significant efforts in the five years since Nutrients was launched. Without these efforts, Nutrients would not be experiencing its current level of success, nor would it be having such immediate impact in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics research. We also thank our contributors for their interest in the journal and encourage them to keep submitting their best work to Nutrients, confident that it will be widely read and cited. We encourage professional societies to affiliate with Nutrients and we will be announcing special discounts in the near future for members of affiliated societies and institutions. We look forward to working with all concerned to further build the reputation of Nutrients into the future.

Jon Buckley and Peter Howe

Joint Editors-in-Chief of Nutrients
