Since the dawn of civilization, humanity has gazed at the stars with wonder and longing. Today, that longing has evolved into the great endeavor of astronautics, a disciplined, visionary science bridging our past and future, transforming our dreams of the cosmos into reality. As we inaugurate Astronautics, this journal stands as a testament to humanity’s unrelenting pursuit of knowledge and our bold strides into the final frontier.
Astronautics is more than a scientific discipline; it is the culmination of centuries of curiosity and innovation. From Galileo’s telescopic revelations to the Apollo moon landings, and from Voyager’s interstellar voyage to the rise of reusable rockets, this field has redefined the boundaries of human achievement. Indeed, the technologies born from astronautics—satellite navigation, global communications, Earth observation—have revolutionized modern life, and beyond practical applications, space exploration has propelled fundamental science forward, testing Einstein’s theories, probing dark matter, and searching for extraterrestrial life.
Now, we stand at the threshold of a new epoch. The Moon and Mars beckon as humanity’s next habitats, while commercial spaceflight and AI-driven autonomy are reshaping how we explore. Asteroid mining, in-space manufacturing, and interplanetary internet are transitioning from science fiction to tangible projects. At the same time, astronautics offers solutions to Earth’s pressing challenges—climate monitoring, sustainable energy, and planetary defense. In this era of expansion, astronautics is not merely a scientific pursuit but a necessity for our species’ future.
Astronautics is born into this transformative age, our mission being to foster interdisciplinary dialog, publishing cutting-edge research in space science, engineering, policy, and ethics. We aim to connect academia, industry, and policymakers, serving as a platform for breakthroughs in propulsion, astrodynamics, space habitats, and beyond. Whether unveiling discoveries from deep-space probes or debating the governance of orbital resources, this journal will champion the ideas that drive humanity forward.
