International Medical Education (IME) (ISSN: 2813-141X) [1] is a new open-access journal. We believe that many high-quality articles are being rejected due to the limited number of medical education publications and limited space. We hope to help rectify this situation by providing a forum for medical, dental, and nursing educators worldwide to share their ideas and developments in the field of medical education.
This journal will focus on medical education (both from clinical and basic perspectives, as well as in terms of graduate and undergraduate education), as defined in the “Aims and Scope” section. With the increasing globalization of higher education, students are coming from all over the world to pursue their education, and institutions of higher education are actively welcoming international students. As a result, scientific evidence needs to be used to determine whether the current teaching, learning, and assessment approaches are appropriate for this international population. Therefore, we are particularly interested in papers that examine how different cultures and multicultural scenarios affect teaching and learning in medicine and health sciences worldwide. Some of the highlights of this new open-access journal include topics such as problem-based learning, strategies for the internationalization of medical school curricula, the proliferation of joint/double degree programs, the development of joint courses and joint lectures with foreign universities, and online courses and teaching. Medical education and practice are primarily multicultural and multiethnic activities. This means that students and physicians from many different countries and cultures study and work together in many medical schools and hospitals worldwide.
We want to encourage the exchange of ideas and experiences from the many different cultures in which medical education is practiced worldwide. In doing so, we believe that we can bring the concept of medical education closer to international standards. The need for communication, collaboration, and education in this developing profession requires the establishment of a new forum dedicated to all forms of internationalized medical education.
We encourage authors to share their research with the international medical education community and its related health professions to help develop this global perspective. We are also currently discussing the potential of indexing IME with PubMed. Finally, we believe that the potential role of IME in education is self-evident. We welcome you to our readership with this inaugural Special Issue and encourage you to join us in the development of this new discipline and forum.
