Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors presented the interesting description of tongue injury. Unfortunately, due to the lack of toxicological studies, the organ loss occurred from interpersonal violence can only be presented.

There is no exact description of the condition of oral mucosa and dentition. Drug use should be noted in the "medical history" section.

I definitely suggest to change the title of article.

Author Response

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for taking the time to review our paper and your overall positive review. We appreciate your comments as to how the paper could be improved and we have made the following revisions:

1) We have given further details of the intra-oral soft tissues at presentation. (Lines 79-87)

2) Medical history (and medications) is now detailed clearly (Lines 74-78)

3) We have added a paragraph at the end of the Discussion chapter to discuss the possibility of this trauma being self-harm. We have clarified that the history and the nature of the trauma (including the ragged concave wound) would rule this out. We have also mentioned the lack of toxicological studies. (Lines 143-152).

4) We have changed the title of the paper. (Line 3)

We hope that you will approve of these revisions and now give recommendation to publication of our paper.

Yours sincerely

Reviewer 2 Report

The case is interesting because of the dynamics with which it arose and I consider it suitable to be reported as a case.

Do I just have doubts? Could the case described not be drug-induced (voluntary or involuntary) self-harm, instead of being the result of an assault? (I may not have understood the dynamics of the accident described by the patient)

Are there any follow-up images? It would be appropriate to attach them to the manuscript

Author Response

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for reviewing our manuscript on for your overall very supportive view.

You made a couple of comments as to how we could improve the paper and we have now addressed these as follows:

1) We have clarified the details of the traumatic assault to the patient, including the fact that the assailant was female.

2) We have added a paragraph at the end of the Discussion chapter to discuss the possibility of this trauma being self-harm. We have clarified that the history and the nature of the trauma (including the ragged concave wound) would rule this out.

3) We have added a follow-up image.

We hope that you will agree that these revisions improve the paper and would now give positive recommendation for publication.

Yours sincerely
