Reviewer 2 Report

1. This paper presents a method for calculating the 14 matrices using two coupled 3-beams ADCPs. A particular geometric configuration is considered: both devices operate in the down-looking mode and are symmetrically turned in the horizontal plane. The main feature of this configuration is the presence of intersection points of two pairs of beams. Six beam velocity variances and the correlation of those velocity components can be directly calculated. As a result, an over-determined system of equations is derived for unknown stresses.

2.   I appreciate the hard work done by the authors.

3.   I recommend accepting this paper with minor revisions as follows:

1) The tests only involved the rotation angle (g), while the validity of the results depends on the rotation angle, device parameter (ao), the distance between ADCP emitters, and the size of beams spread at each given depth. To avoid misinterpretation by readers, the authors should modify the paper's title to suit the study conducted.

2)  The abstract should also state the study's scope and limitations. Please revise it to include specific and general results and the conclusion.

3) Please explain why the testing/validation of this measurement model was not carried out in the laboratory, where the experimental conditions could be varied as expected.

4) To illustrate that this method has the potential to be applied, please add a discussion about the effect of other parameters that affect the validity and accuracy of measurements with this method, for example, the impact of the device parameter, the distance between ADCP emitters, the size of beams spread at each given depth.

5) The authors should double-check the manuscript for typos, spelling and grammar mistakes, and English language consistency.
