This is a relevant and nicely-written article about the comparison of three MODIS-based snow products in terms of snow cover area and snowline altitude in the Karakoram region. All sections of the manuscript are well-written and supported by adequate figures. I have only minor comments outlined below. Therefore, I recommend publication of this article after the following comments have been addressed.

General comments:

  • Figures 2, 4-8: I would avoid using both red and green on the same figure as this is not recommended for color-blind readers
  • Please use a comma to separate thousands in numbers, e.g. line 96: "104,010 km²" (many occurrences in the text and in tables)
  • Please stick to one spelling for the main region: either "Karakoram" or "Karakorom"

Specific comments:

  • line 136: please specify what is overestimated in the original products (snow cover?)
  • line 138 and 139: the references should be presented as "in Muhammad and Thapa (2019) ... in Muhammad and Thapa (2020)"
  • line 198: please rephrase to "which can be computed as follows"
  • line 218: The numbers given are not approximate. I would suggest to rephrase to "Two hundred and ninety-five Terra images and 417 Aqua images"
  • line 231: The beginning of the sentence ("The overall snow is negatively biased") does not make sense. Please rephrase.
  • line 256: "Overall, the Karakoram region and Shyok basin experience"
  • Table 4: there seems to be a problem with the formatting of this table (why was every cell given a number?)
  • line 278: " whereas the improved product shows"
  • Figure 3: Dots are not explained in the figure caption. Are they outliers?
  • line 316: "June" was misspelled
  • line 327: please rephrase to "which are presented as annual boxplots in Fig. 6"
  • line 365-367: I would remove the brackets and start a new sentence with "For example, ..."
  • line 372-373: could you please include at least one reference for this?
  • line 446-448: The beginning and end of the sentence don't match. A suggestion would be to rephrase to something like "The summer overestimation is mainly due to (...) and the winter underestimation to the misclassification of snow as clouds during winter at higher altitudes"
  • line 466: I would remove the word "many" or I would add other references with different first authors

The author addressed all points and responded in great detail to all raised issues. The manuscript has improved considerably. No further comments from my side, congratulations to the authors for such a fine job.
