Digitalisation has significantly increased cybersecurity risks in organisations, notably for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in which IT departments often have relatively small teams and limited resources. Cyber insurance enables SMEs to navigate cybersecurity risks more economically, providing an essential risk transfer alternative to costly reduction strategies. This article examines the antecedents, emergence, and application of cyber insurance as a solution to cybersecurity concerns against the backdrop of increasing digitalisation. The research adopts a quantitative deductive approach, with an analysis of relevant literature providing the basis for the development of 12 hypotheses, which are then tested via a survey of 168 SMEs in Turkey. Using the Technology–Organisation–Environment–Individual (TOE-I) model as a top-line conceptual framework, the article finds that cyber insurance policy adoption has facilitated a more rapid and secure digitalisation process and that the mitigation of financial risk associated with cyberattacks has allowed companies to invest more widely in information technologies and systems. The article clearly has its limitations, in that it is based on primary research in one European country, but the authors believe that it nevertheless provides some new insights into the potential benefits of cyber insurance, and the key issues SMEs must consider when considering adopting a cyber insurance policy. The findings will be of practical relevance to SMEs and other organisations reviewing their cybersecurity strategy and are also of relevance to the wider debate around the costs and benefits of digitalisation. Smart manufacturing is an important initiative to promote the transformation and upgrading of industries and the high-quality development of the economy. However, the current situation of digitalized smart transformation in manufacturing enterprises is not optimistic, which is primarily attributed to the ambiguity surrounding the pathways. This study is based on the technology-organization-environment-individual (TOE-I) analytical framework; it selects 20 case studies of advanced manufacturing enterprises; and employs case studies and necessary condition fuzzy set qualitative comparative research methods (NCA and fsQCA) to investigate the pathways through which technology, organization, the environment, and individual microelements synergistically drive smart manufacturing from a configurational perspective. The study reveals that digital technology breakthroughs, digital infrastructure, digital talent, digital sharing, organizational resilience, organizational culture, and the entrepreneurial spirit are the core influencing factors in advancing smart manufacturing for manufacturing enterprises, and four implementation paths driven by smart manufacturing are analyzed. Among them, digital technology breakthroughs and digital infrastructure have a potential substitutive relationship in the “technology + talent” empowerment organizational model. Organizational resilience, organizational culture, and the entrepreneurial spirit are important safeguards for successful advancements in smart manufacturing. In contrast, digital infrastructure plays a more indirect, supporting role. Accordingly, this paper provides theoretical reference and practical guidance. Full article

This study aims to identify the key success factors for the adoption of a cloud computing system in vessel traffic service (VTS) systems and evaluate the relative importance of each factor. Through a literature review and expert Delphi surveys, 12 success factors were derived across the dimensions of technology, organization, environment, and institution. The results of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) analysis revealed that stability in the technological dimension was the most important factor. This study provides useful implications for future decision-making in VTS cloud adoption by systematically identifying the key success factors and presenting their priorities through the application of the TOE-I framework to VTS cloud computing. Under the wave of global industrial structure upgrading, Chinese manufacturing is developing towards a higher value chain. In this paper, 52 cases are selected and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) is used to analyze the configurations of Chinese manufacturing value chain transition. It was found that there are three configurations to realize value chain transition in Chinese manufacturing enterprises, and that any single condition in technology, environment, organization and individual dimensions cannot contribute to value chain transition, and configuration matching is needed to effectively promote value chain transition. Compared with previous studies, the entry point of this paper is multiple firm-level data, and it further expands the scope of application of the technology-organization-environment-individual (TOEI) framework, which is innovative to a certain extent. In addition, the findings of this paper help to construct analytical ideas for the value chain transition of Chinese manufacturing enterprises, further explore different paths for the upgrading of the value chain, propose strategies for manufacturing development according to local conditions, and promote the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry.
