This study examines the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) rankings developed by the World Bank from a methodological perspective and proposes an alternative decision support framework. LPI serves as an interactive tool that helps countries identify challenges, innovative solutions, and opportunities in their trade and logistics sectors. In this study, the efficiency of logistics operations in 118 countries was evaluated using an integrated multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model objectively weighted by the Entropy method. Countries were ranked using the MCRAT, SAW, TOPSIS, and FUCA methods. According to the findings, large datasets provide more robust insights for sensitivity analyses, and wider weighting coefficient combinations make the data more meaningful. In addition, it is suggested to use low-compensation methods instead of classical additive methods for LPI. Unlike other studies in literature, this research applied an innovative sensitivity analysis to test the robustness of the model and comprehensively examined the effects of weighting techniques based on over 2500 different MCDM results. The findings suggest that the FUCA method should be recommended to decision-makers for calculating LPI rankings due to its simplicity, practicality, low compensatory power, and low sensitivity. This study offers methodological improvements when evaluating logistics performance and provides significant contributions to decision-making processes. The findings are expected to provide a valuable resource for policymakers and businesses in understanding a country’s position in global competition, as well as serving as a reference for researchers evaluating the logistics performance of countries. The current business climate has generated considerable uncertainty and disrupted supply chain processes. Suppliers have frequently been identified as the primary source of hazards responsible for supply chain disruptions. Using a strategic approach to supplier selection that prioritizes providers with resilience features, mitigating the risk exposure inherent in supply chains is possible. This study proposes a comprehensive gray multiple-criteria decision making (MCDM) method incorporating resilience attributes to supplier selection. To determine criteria weights, the gray PSI and gray BWM methodologies were used, and to evaluate and prioritize resilient providers, the gray MCRAT and gray COBRA methodologies were applied. According to the results obtained by the suggested methodology, the supplier that demonstrated the greatest degree of resilience was determined to be the provider categorized as SPIR 4. The sequential sequence of the SPIR numbers is as follows: SPIR 5, SPIR 1, SPIR 3, SPIR 2, and SPIR 6. The data demonstrate that the developed approach produced accurate results. Full article

Material handling is a cost-intensive operation for businesses. There are several alternative types of equipment for material handling, therefore it is important to select the best one among them to decrease the cost. As there are several different alternatives and criteria which are used to assess these alternatives, multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) techniques are useful to determine the optimal material handling equipment (MHE) for businesses. In this study, fuzzy BWM for determining weights of criteria and the fuzzy Multiple Criteria Ranking by Alternative Trace (MCRAT) method have been used for ranking forklift alternatives. This study’s significance in the literature will be the creation of a novel fuzzy MCDM technique with the application of fuzzy MCRAT. Furthermore, there are relatively few studies employing the MCRAT approach in the literature; therefore, this study will provide additional data and outcomes from this method to the literature. The findings present that the forklift with the code FLT-3 performed the best, whereas the forklift with the code FLT-2 had the worst performance, according to the fuzzy MCRAT technique. According to the comparison analysis, the fuzzy MCRAT produced the same results as the fuzzy ARAS and had a few subtle differences to fuzzy MARCOS. Full article

Building insulation is the most respected among the compatible and effective energy conservation technologies available today, as it also reduces yearly energy costs and negative environmental effects. A building envelope is made up of various insulation materials that are important in determining a building’s thermal performance. Proper insulation material selection concludes in less energy requisition for operation. The purpose of this research is to supply information about natural fibre insulating materials used in construction insulation to maintain energy efficiency, as well as to recommend the most efficient natural fibre insulation material. As in most decision-making problems, several criteria and alternatives are involved in insulation material selection, too. Therefore, we used a novel integrated multi criteria decision making (MCDM) model including the preference selection index (PSI), method based on the removal effects of criteria (MEREC), logarithmic percentage change-driven objective weighting (LOPCOW), and multiple criteria ranking by alternative trace (MCRAT) methods to deal with the complexity of numerous criteria and alternatives. The contribution of this study is that a new hybrid MCDM method is developed. Additionally, the number of studies using the MCRAT method is very limited in the literature; therefore, this study will provide more insights into and results of this method to the literature. Multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) is a supporting tool which is widely spread in different areas of science and industry. Many researchers have confirmed that MCDM methods can be useful for selecting the best solution in many different problems. In this paper, two novel methods are presented and applied on existing decision-making processes in the mining industry. The first method is multiple criteria ranking by alternative trace (MCRAT) and the second is ranking alternatives by perimeter similarity (RAPS). These two novel methods are demonstrated in decision-making problems and compared with the ranking of the same alternatives by other MCDM methods. The mining process often includes drilling and blasting operations as the most common activities for exploitation of raw materials. For optimal blasting design it is important to select the most suitable parameters for the blasting pattern and respect characteristics of the working environment and production conditions. By applying novel methods, how to successfully select the most proper blasting pattern respecting all conditions that must be satisfied for economic aspects and the safety of employees and the environment is presented. A simplified substitute for heart rate (HR) at the anaerobic threshold (AT), i.e., resting HR plus 30 beats per minute or a percentage of predicted maximum HR, is used as a way to determine exercise intensity without cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPX) data. However, difficulties arise when using this method in subacute myocardial infarction (MI) patients undergoing beta-blocker therapy. This study compared the effects of αβ-blocker and β1-blocker treatment to clarify how different beta blockers affect HR response during incremental exercise. MI patients were divided into αβ-blocker (n = 67), β1-blocker (n = 17), and no-β-blocker (n = 47) groups. All patients underwent CPX one month after MI onset. The metabolic chronotropic relationship (MCR) was calculated as an indicator of HR response from the ratio of estimated HR to measured HR at AT (MCR-AT) and peak exercise (MCR-peak). MCR-AT and MCR-peak were significantly higher in the αβ-blocker group than in the β1-blocker group (p < 0.001, respectively). Multiple regression analysis revealed that β1-blocker but not αβ-blocker treatment significantly predicted lower MCR-AT and MCR-peak (β = −0.432, p < 0.001; β = −0.473, p < 0.001, respectively). Based on these results, when using the simplified method, exercise intensity should be prescribed according to the type of beta blocker used. Full article
