About the Event

The Charleston Conference Asia, organized by the Charleston Hub in partnership with Annual Reviews and iGroup, is a three-day gathering designed to address both regional and global challenges in the scholarly communication ecosystem. It serves as a collegial forum for stakeholders in Asia and Africa to participate directly in the decision-making processes shaping the future of information science.

When?

The conference is scheduled for January 26–28, 2026.

Where?

The inaugural event will be held at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

What to Expect?

Under the theme "Between Tides: Navigating the Open Seas," participants will explore the rapidly changing landscape of academic publishing. Key highlights include:

  • Visit Our Booth: MDPI representatives will be available throughout the event at Booth #57. Stop by to discuss our latest initiatives, open-access models, and partnership opportunities.
  • Featured MDPI Presentation: Becky Castellon, Institutional Partnerships Manager at MDPI, will present a sponsored session titled "The Use of AI in Research Integrity and Publication Ethics" on Tuesday, January 27th, from 1:15 PM to 2:00 PM in Riverside I. The session will explore how MDPI is responding to the rise of generative AI by implementing safeguards to prevent misuse, detecting unethical practices, and leveraging AI responsibly to strengthen peer review and integrity checks.
  • Regional Equity and Inclusion: Strategies to ensure research from the Asia-Pacific and African regions is equally recognized, visible, and valued in the global scholarly record.
  • Interactive Dialogue: In keeping with the "Charleston way," the event emphasizes informal, respectful conversations to identify and solve industry problems together.
