The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dr. Salomone Di Saverio, who shared his vision for the journal and his views on the research area:

1. What appealed to you about the journal that made you want to take the role as its Editor-in-Chief?
It is a young journal yet with a good background and impact factor, with a promising future.

2. What is your vision for the journal?
Increase the research and evidence with particular focus on surgical oncology, major abdominal surgery and novel minimal techniques including robotics and hybrid procedures combined with interventional endoscopy and interventional radiology, for treating esophagogastric cancer and HBO and colorectal cancer.

3. What does the future of this field of research look like?
I believe we should also give visibility to technique articles and make an educational platform for young surgeons.

4. What do you think of the development of open access in the publishing field?
I believe that if this is supported and financed by the institutions and universities, open access would be an excellent way to spread surgical knowledge and research.

We wish Prof. Dr. Salomone Di Saverio every success in his new position, and we look forward to his contributions to the journal.
