This Section is dedicated to advancing research in the area of what has been termed Industry 4.0. The term Industry 4.0 was coined to characterize what has been termed the Fourth Industrial Revolution, a series of advances in the use of technology and analytics in the manufacturing sector. Industry 4.0 builds on the preceding era of digitization, enhancing this with cloud technology, robotics, 3D printing, machine learning, and AI, as well as virtual and augmented reality. These developments must be accompanied by upskilling and reskilling, ensuring that there are sufficient levels of skilled workers to support this new context. Data technologies have fostered the advent of the Industry 4.0 revolution, leading to improved manufacturing operations and increased efficiency. The objective of the Section is to draw together specialists who are engaged in the research, development, and teaching of industrial informatics in academia and healthcare settings. Contributions, such as original research articles, reviews, mini-reviews, letters, and communications, on all aspects of industrial informatics will be considered, such as industrial communications, industrial IoT, machine learning/artificial intelligence applied to industrial processes and operations, industrial robotics, collaborative robotics, and additive manufacturing, among others. We invite researchers to submit manuscripts dealing with different aspects of industrial informatics. |
