Publisher’s Note: Have You Ever Looked at the Stars?

Have you ever looked at the stars? I bet you have. Outer space is always so fascinating and full of mysteries which have attracted so much attention for thousands of years. However, due to the lack of knowledge and technology in ancient times, we could only explore outer space by visual observation and imagination. During that time, people thought that the Sun, the Moon and all other stars revolved around the Earth, until the publication of Copernicus’ model in his book “De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres)” [1]. With the development of technology, a number of advanced telescopes have been built, such as the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), which have helped us to have a better understanding of the Universe. However, humans’ knowledge of outer space is still very limited.

MDPI publishes two journals (Universe [2] and Galaxies [3], launched in 2015 and 2013, respectively) related to this field. Here, we would like to launch another journal, Astronomy (ISSN: 2674-0346) [4], to expand our portfolio within the field of planetary sciences by focusing on recent advancements and developments in observational astronomy. Currently, this new journal is on the stage of recruiting editorial board members. We welcome scientists within the field of astronomy to join us and publish interesting findings in this journal.
