Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Extracts from natural products, especially higher plants, have been used for the treatment of various diseases for millennia. Until the nineteenth century, medicines were based on natural products. At present, natural products still play a major role in therapy. Extracts from natural products are used in different therapeutic areas, and their efficacy is supported by clinical trials. The therapeutic potential of natural product extracts is undoubtedly related to their multicomponent nature, with impacts on different pharmacological targets (multitarget activity). In addition, compounds in extracts might act in synergy, resulting in higher efficacy.

The Special Issue aims to provide an update on the advances in research on the bioactivity of natural product extracts, especially (but not exclusively) anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, antidiabetic and anti-aging extracts. We welcome the submission of studies on the pharmacokinetics, as well as the cellular and molecular mechanisms of activity, of natural product extracts and their interactions with drugs.

Researchers are invited to submit original research and review articles on the aforementioned topics.

This Special Issue is related to Phytochemical Society of Europe Conference on Natural Products in Drug Discovery and Development—Advances and Perspectives that will be held in Iasi, Romania, on September 19–22, 2022. can The conference be found on the website: https://psemeetingiasi2022.eu.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
