Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Complete blood cell count-derived indices such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) are highly sensitive biomarkers that can enter routine use in many pathological conditions. Their usefulness has been proven in cancer as predictors and markers of infectious or inflammatory pathologies and many other conditions. Surprisingly, the study of these biomarkers in neurological and psychiatric diseases is somewhat limited. In theese diseases, attention is increasingly focusing on aspects related to neuroinflammation. This can open up new stages in diagnostics, prognostic evaluation and therapy. Therefore, the study of new haematological indices and other immune parameters in the body's fluids is to be extended and deepened.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue of "Vaccines" dedicated to haematological indices derived from the counts of lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils and platelets in the blood in neurological and psychiatric diseases. Moreover, serum protein-based indices such as C-reactive protein/albumin ratio or serum albumin to globulin ratio or a simple evaluation of new inflammatory biomarkers, such as miRNA, may be the target of papers accepted in this Issue. Such a field of interest can extend to all immune parameters capable of giving prognostic information and therapeutic indications in these pathologies from peripheral blood, other organic liquids, or tissues.

This Special issue aims to take stock of the data present in the literature regarding the complete blood cell count-derived ratios in this group of pathologies and to formulate a hypothesis, based on the most recent data concerning innate and acquired immunity, on which diseases of the nervous system could benefit in diagnostic and prognostic terms from the in-depth study of these new biomarkers.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Complete blood cell count-derived ratios and other inflammatory and immunological biomarkers in organic liquides in neurological and psychiatric diseases

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Vaccines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
