Insights in Phylogeography and Evolutionary Genetics of Plants

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, titled “Insights in Phylogeography and Evolutionary Genetics of Plants”, explores the complex evolutionary histories and interrelationships among plant species through the lens of phylogeography. Phylogeography, the study of the historical processes that may be responsible for the contemporary geographic distributions of individuals, offers a framework for understanding evolutionary relationships by analyzing genetic variations within and among populations. It further sheds light on the geographic distribution of species over time, contributing to our understanding of how biological communities have formed and evolved.

With the advent of next-generation sequencing technologies and advances in genomic theory, the fields of phylogeography and evolutionary genetics have seen significant expansion. This Special Issue aims at highlighting cutting-edge research in these domains, with a particular focus on the evolution of plant phylogeography from primarily molecular investigations to a broader, more integrative approach. It also aims at exploring the advancements in biogeography spurred by genomic developments and at discussing the implications of phylogenetic and biogeographical evidence in the study of evolutionary genetics.

Submissions to this Special Issue should span a wide array of topics, from molecular evolution studies that clarify both micro- and macro-evolutionary processes and the evolutionary histories of species, to investigations into the role of biogeography in determining the distribution and adaptive strategies of plant species in response to climate change and environmental fragmentation. This Special Issue intends to serve as a platform for sharing innovative research that enhances our understanding of plant evolution, distribution, and conservation, all through the prism of phylogenetic and biogeographical evidence.
