Dear Colleagues,
Much of the phenomena associated with changes in the dynamics of the coupled ocean-atmosphere system can be regarded as transitions between meta-stable states. While the linear response to external factors, such as radiative forcing, has been the focus of considerable investigation in the climate community, the mechanisms responsible for decadal and longer timescale variability are not well understood. This Special Issue will solicit papers from leading researchers in the field to give an overview of the theory, simulation, and methods for detection and attribution of metastability in the climate system. The issue will focus in particular on the role of stochastic forcing on low frequency variability.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Journal of Marine Science and Engineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
