Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Most of you surely know that polymeric plastic materials could be present in the marine environment with different structural characteristics and dimensions. This marine litter could interact with aquatic organisms, which could be damaged or killed. In addition, plastics can enter the trophic chain, producing effects at the human level. The research and study of plastic litter in marine environments are constantly evolving; they include several topics, such as the presence and distribution of plastic debris in the marine environment, chemical analysis and their toxic effects, and also of contaminants that are absorbed.

The main purpose of this Special Issue is to update knowledge on plastic debris research in marine environments by collecting recent and innovative studies written by scientists working in this field of study. I do hope that the topics of this Special Issue encourage the submission of a wide variety of studies concerning plastics in marine environments.

Authors are invited to submit papers dealing with topics that include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Presence and distribution of plastic debris in marine environment
• Sampling and pretreatment methods for chemical analysis
• Conventional and innovative approaches for chemical analysis
• Marine plastic differentiation and potential source identification
• Toxic effects of marine plastics on organisms
• Toxic effects of contaminants adsorbed onto plastics on marine organisms
• Marine plastic remediation

Any type of scientific contribution, research articles, technical notes, scientific reviews and monitoring studies are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Marine Science and Engineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
