Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

According to a recent report by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy platform on biodiversity and ecosystem services, one in five people in the world depend on wild species for sustenance and income, with fisheries being the main source of food from wild species. Thus, the conservation of these resources through their sustainable management is more important than ever to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Mediterranean and the Black Sea areas are under pressure from the massive presence of non-native species from the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean and other parts of the world, in terms of maritime transport, climate change and expanding human presence, economic development, etc. We welcome research papers, reviews, and contributions on various aspects of marine fish biodiversity, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Taxonomy and systematics: novel discoveries in fish species, phylogenetics, and evolutionary relationships.
  • Distribution patterns: studies on the geographical distribution of marine fish species and the factors influencing their ranges.
  • Ecological roles: investigations into the ecological functions of marine fishes, including predator-prey relationships and niche specialization.
  • Conservation and management: strategies and initiatives for the conservation and sustainable use of marine fish resources.
  • Adaptations and behavior: research on the behavioral and physiological adaptations of marine fishes to their environments.
  • Genetic diversity: assessments of genetic diversity within and among marine fish populations.
  • Climate change impacts: how environmental changes affect the biodiversity and distribution of marine fishes.
  • Anthropogenic threats: studies on the impacts of human activities such as overfishing, habitat degradation, and pollution on marine fish populations.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Marine Science and Engineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
