Novel Insights into the Molecular Mechanisms of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Calcification

Dear Colleagues,

The aim of this Special Issue titled “Novel Insights into the Molecular Mechanisms of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Calcification” is to provide deeper insight into the complex mechanism in the control of cardiovascular disease development, from initiation to progression. This Special Issue will outline recent advances in research on matrix metalloproteinases; inflammation and the immune system in atherosclerosis; lymphatic system and oxidative stress; phenotypic modification of vascular smooth muscle cells; the mechanism of plaque rupture and vascular calcification; involvement of microbiota and sex differences in development, progression and pathophysiological mechanisms; and the importance of genetics and epigenetics. Special emphasis will be given to single-cell transcriptomics for identifying novel markers of vulnerable plaques as well as the mechanism of vascular calcification.
