Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Today, electrical machines systems, as one of the core components for energy conversion and electricity consumption, have been widely employed in many sectors of industry, transportation, and domestic life. To achieve the goals of net-zero schemes and to address environmental issues, the rapid development of renewable energy generation, energy storage, electrified transportation, and environmentally friendly industries have significantly raised the requirements of high-performance electrical machines to unprecedented levels. These requirements include, but are not limited to, high torque/power density, high efficiency, low torque ripple, low cost, high reliability, high mechanical strength, good thermal management capability, and efficient integration with power electronic drive components.

To deal with the ever-increasing performance demands that have already become challenging for existing electrical machine techniques, researchers in both academia and industry are exploring innovative approaches across different disciplines. Within the potential fields, new topologies and design techniques, application of novel electromagnetic materials, and multiphysics-based design optimization methods for data-driven and artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted approaches can be investigated for cutting-edge breakthroughs in high-performance electrical machines. Moreover, the utilization of advanced manufacturing technologies and control methods can also inspire emerging developments from systematic integration prospects. Therefore, more efforts must be made in the area of high-performance electrical machines.

This Special Issue is dedicated to providing a platform for researchers to exchange the latest research and newest ideas in the area of design, optimization, manufacturing, and drives for high-performance electrical machines, further contributing to the ongoing progress in this dynamic field.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include but not limited to the following:

  • Permanent magnet machines;
  • Reluctance machines;
  • Electrically excited synchronous machines;
  • Doubly fed induction machines;
  • Data-driven design optimization;
  • AI-assisted design;
  • Advanced manufacturing techniques for machines;
  • Integration design of machines and power electronics;
  • Machine control and drives.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
