Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Climate change, population growth, and the increasing demand for natural resources (food) have threatened the stability of agriculture and people's well-being. Phenomena such as rising temperatures, droughts, pests and diseases, and the impacts of extreme weather events have continuously decreased the resilience of agroecosystems. It is thus needed to strengthen a vision that promotes biodiversity conservation, ecological functions, and the multiple services agricultural landscapes provide.

It is urgent to speed up an effective agroecological transition and the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals as a whole, and SDG13 (climate action) in particular. This requires the engagement of different actors (e.g., farmers, scientists, entrepreneurs, managers, politicians, and other stakeholders) in the co-production of knowledge and co-design of sustainable solutions.

This Special Issue aims to provide reliable information from around the world on research, education, innovation, and management practices that encourage the transition to more sustainable and resilient agroecosystems in an increasingly critical climate change context.

Researchers are invited to submit papers on the following potential topics:

  • Agroecology and sustainability;
  • Ecosystem services;
  • Barriers and enablers of agroecological transition (at the global, regional, and local scales);
  • Biodiversity and ecological functions;
  • Traditional and local knowledge/practices;
  • Multi-actor approaches and participatory dynamics;
  • Agroecosystems' adaptation to climate change;
  • Water management in agricultural systems;
  • Policies supporting the agroecological transition;
  • Multifunctional agricultural landscapes.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
