Fourth International Conference on Language Contact in Times of Globalization (LCTG4)

After three successful meetings in Groningen (The Netherlands) and Greifswald (Germany), we are delighted to announce that the 'Fourth International Conference on Language Contact in Times of Globalization' (LCTG4) will again take place in Greifswald from 16 to 18 March 2017. LCTG4 will bring together scholars examining language contact phenomena from different parts of the world, including the following six renowned keynote speakers:

  • Ad Backus (University of Tilburg, The Netherlands)
  • Adam Jaworski (University of Hong Kong)
  • Susanne Michaelis (University of Leipzig, Germany)
  • Salikoko Mufwene (University of Chicago, USA)
  • Sarah G. Thomason (University of Michigan, USA)
  • Ghil'ad Zuckermann (University of Adelaide, Australia)

The papers presented offer new insights and findings in the following fields of language contact:

  1. The dynamics of language contact: from language mixing to mixed languages
  2. Contact between typologically distinct languages and grammatical change
  3. Language politics and language conflicts in multilingual areas
  4. The creative aspect of language contact
