New Targets in Allergic Rhinitis Management

Dear Colleagues,

Allergic rhinitis is still considered a trivial disease, though it affects more than 70 million people in Europe. Self-diagnosis and self-treatment are very common, leading to poor control of the disease. To note, in addition to the well-known clinical picture characterized by sneezing and rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction is responsible for sleep impairment as well as for drowsiness during the day, which can negatively affect driving ability, working capacity, and quality of life.

Although the currently available drugs and treatment are very effective and safe and can achieve a satisfying control in most cases, patients frequently do not receive medical advice or are not adherent to prescriptions. Therefore, the disease is still uncontrolled in many cases. Concomitant asthma and the complex relationships between upper and lower airways also need to be pointed out.
