Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

New advancements in tissue engineering and organ preservation have begun to revolutionize the field of liver transplantation. These have allowed for the expansion of the organ pool and the opportunity to modify and treat the organ prior to implantation to diminish its susceptibility to ischemic injury and rejection. Machine perfusion has led to substantial changes in the utilization of donors after cardiac death and is being explored for use in partial/split liver graft transplantation. Perfusion technology has also made inroads in the treatment of acute liver failure as a bridge to liver transplantation, though its use in the United States has not been approved. The use of stem cells for the treatment of cholangiopathy or as a bridge to transplant has also recently been described. These innovations will undoubtedly change the field as their utilization is rapidly evolving.

This Special Issue aims to provide new information on tissue engineering, machine perfusion, organ replacement with perfusion technology, and stem cells for liver transplantation.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed.
