Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute your research to this Special Issue of Genealogy, titled “Aging, Family Dynamics, and Care in Transnational Families”.

In migration literature, less attention is devoted to the critical intersection of aging, social well-being, and family dynamics within transnational contexts. This Special Issue aims to address this gap by investigating the multifaceted experiences of aging migrants and their families. Our focus extends to the nuanced intricacies of caregiving, intergenerational relationships, and the negotiation of cultural and social expectations within transnational families.

By interrogating the lived experiences of aging migrants and their families, we seek to unravel the complexities surrounding notions of well-being, care, and familial relationships across geographical borders. Through a multidisciplinary lens, we aim to problematize conventional interpretations of family dynamics within migrant and transnational communities.

Key themes to be explored include, but are not limited to, intergenerational relationships, intergenerational ambivalence, cognitive boundaries, and the impact of cultural expectations on familial dynamics. By critically engaging with these themes, this Special Issue endeavors to enrich the scholarly discourse on migration while offering practical insights into the lived realities of migrants and their families. This Special Issue welcomes contributions from various regions of the globe.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
