About Fermentation

Aims

Fermentation (ISSN 2311-5637) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access, online journal publishing high quality original research papers, review articles, short communications and technical notes on all research areas of fermentation related to new and emerging products, processes and technologies.

The journal aims at a broad multidisciplinary readership, which includes both academia and industries, and covers broad areas of research and technological advances on all aspects of fermentation. We aim to encourage researchers to publish their experimental, theoretical, and computational results in as much detail as necessary. We thus restrict neither paper length nor number of figures and tables.

Fully comprehensive in its scope, the journal coverage includes:

  • Fermentation process and product development
  • Strain improvement
  • Bioprocess and metabolic engineering
  • Scale up of fermentation processes
  • Downstream processing of fermentation products
  • Microbial physiology and metabolism
  • Applied genetics and molecular biotechnology
  • Genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and systems biology
  • Bioinformatics
  • Bioreactor design, monitoring, biosensors and instrumentation
  • Biosafety and biosecurity

Submission of an article implies that it is an unpublished work. Authors must assure that no part of the submitted article has been published or submitted elsewhere for publication consideration.

Readership

Fermentation technologists, biochemical engineers, microbiologists, industrial biotechnologists, combinatorial chemists, enzyme technologists, environmental scientists, food processors, molecular biologists, pharmaceutical scientists and Agro- and food biotechnologists.

Fermentation is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). MDPI takes the responsibility to enforce a rigorous peer-review together with strict ethical policies and standards to ensure to add high quality scientific works to the field of scholarly publication. Unfortunately, cases of plagiarism, data falsification, inappropriate authorship credit, and the like, do arise. MDPI takes such publishing ethics issues very seriously and our editors are trained to proceed in such cases with a zero tolerance policy. To verify the originality of content submitted to our journals, we use iThenticate to check submissions against previous publications. MDPI works with Publons to provide reviewers with credit for their work.
