Cover Story: In the present high fat diet model, high energy intake causes alterations in the expression of fatty acid metabolism and inflammatory genes along with their transcription factors, which contribute to lipid abnormalities. Expression of SREBP-1c and NFκβ and their regulatory genes, i.e., ACACA, FASN and TNF-α genes was upregulated in diabetic rats. PPAR-γ, CPT1, and FABP expression was found to be downregulated. These genes play a key role in de novo lipogenesis, beta-oxidation, and transportation of fatty acids. Overall, this may lead to development of diabetic dyslipidemia. View this paper
