What is the difference between Custom Selection Reprints and Issue Reprints?

Issue Reprints are a collections of articles from a journal and a specific Special Issue, Topical Collection, Topic or Proceedings. The Guest Editor can request the publication of closed Special Issue, Topical Collection, Topic or Proceedings in book format. Every Reprint is made available in open access format online and as a physical book via print-on-demand.

Custom Selection Reprints can, however, include any paper published with MDPI and are not necessarily related to one specific journal or Special Issue. They may be an interdisciplinary book, focused on a particular theme or an author collection.

While Issue Reprints always qualify for online publication with MDPI Books, Custom Selection Reprints are direct-to-customer books. Custom Selection Reprints are usually NOT published and distributed with an ISBN. This means distribution through sales platforms and online visibility (in our library) are usually not essential. We try to avoid publishing the same papers repeatedly in different books, which is why we cannot host Custom Selection Reprints in our online library.
