Can I include third-party material in an open access book?

Third-party material, such as text, graphics, tables, and figures taken from previous publications, can be included; however, please note that the following requirements must be met:

Permission must be secured from the rights holders to be able to use the material in an open access publication.
It is important to indicate in each caption/credit both the copyright holder and the terms under which the material is shared. In general, it is possible to share the material under a different license from the rest of the book, e.g., if the permission for publishing under CC BY cannot be obtained. Whenever possible, third-party material should be shared under the same license as the rest of the book.
