Summary

Health literacy (HL) and digital health literacy (DHL) are increasingly recognized as core competencies in contemporary nursing education and practice. This reprint introduces the Special Issue, ‘Innovations in Nursing Education, Practice, and Research: Emphasizing Health Literacy,’ which aims to critically examine how HL and DHL can be systematically and explicitly integrated into nursing curricula, clinical practice, and research. The contributions in this Special Issue address educational innovations, digital literacy, communication, and the ethical dimensions of care, as well as the role of HL across diverse clinical and social contexts. Together, they highlight the emerging educational, methodological, and conceptual innovations that support the development of communicative, digital, and critical competencies in nursing practice. This reprint synthesizes these contributions, identifies key thematic axes, and outlines strategic directions for future education and research, reinforcing health literacy as a transversal and essential component of person-centered, safe, and equitable nursing care.
