Summary

Plant extracts exhibit a variety of bioactive compounds (polyphenols, carotenoids, fibers, essential oils, polysaccharides, alkaloids, and proteins). The majority have biological effects, but their mechanisms of action are still unknown. In fact, the variability of compounds in the crude extract of plants poses a challenge to fish, and the extracts exhibit activity for selected cellular targets for specific diseases of interest. This Special Issue focuses on medicinal plants and explores the potential effect of extracts and/or its compounds sourced from medicinal plants in specific experimental models of diseases. This SI summarizes the updated data related to plant extracts, and in some cases, highlighted major compounds characterized from a specific extract/plant in different disease models, including in cell-line prostate cancer and C57BL/6 mouse prostate, rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory diseases, hyperuricemia, hearing loss, influenza A, thrombose, and diabetes. In addition, there have been reports about the multifaceted effects of extracts on inflammation, neuroprotection, immunomodulation, hepatoprotection, cardio protection, diabetes, and arthritic and microbial stress. Therefore, we invite readers who are passionate about this topic to read this Special Issue.
