Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Water, wastewater, and air decontamination are topics of great interest today, due to the adverse effects on the environment, human health and economy. Problems of insufficient clean portable water, the presence of different priorities and emerging contaminants, and the need for separation and recovery valuable trace materials are other factors that add up to the importance of developing advanced separation and treatment technologies. To fulfil the mission of sustainable development, it is essential to attain economic growth without unnecessary demand on the existing natural resources while imposing less stress on the environment. Therefore, a significant shift is required on the existing technologies to enhance the productivity while reducing the impact on the environment and energy costs. Membrane separation technologies are currently acknowledged as one of the most important key solutions that can contribute to sustainable development of water and gas separation technologies by enhancing productivity under low energy demand and improving environmental decontaminations. In the spirit of improving and promoting the role of membrane technologies, highlighting advances and new findings in membrane science and technology and their impact on the technology development and the environment, this Special Issue aims to attract academics, researchers, professional engineers dealing with, but not limited to the following broader topics to contribute to this Special Issue;

  • Recent development in membrane material and its industrial applications;
  • Application of membrane technologies in gas seperation processes;
  • Develoipment in membrane technologies for water treatment: materials, processes, and applications;
  • Membrane technologies and energy perspectives;
  • Applications in the environment;
  • Industrial applications;
  • Membrane bioreactors;
  • Advances in membrane bioprocesses;
  • Sustainability in the water–energy nexus of the desalination processes;
  • Renewable-energy-driven membrane technologies;
  • Economic tradeoff the membrane technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Membranes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
